bought this as a multi region player for my LCD TV, have had other pioneer players and have always been pleased
with their high quality sound and picture quality.. Made the mistake of buying another make of DVD player and had loads of problems playing back ups. You really notice the inprovement when playing DVDs with this player via the HDMI conection.. Its worth paying alittle extra and getting a good make of CABLE.
I liked the idea of a USB connection bought a cheap 4gig and put some avi`s on their, personaly I find burning a dvd full of files makes more sence. But im sure its got value and usefullness for some people. I think this is a fantastic good value for money player and im sure when it gets tested it will beat more expensive players.

Go Buy It, cant wait for the Wi-Fi version some time next year..?

Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for

I've always been partial to Pioneer DVD players finding them to be reliable, easy to use and to have superior picture quality, so the first thing I did after getting an HDTV was upgrade my long in the tooth DV-444 to one of these beauties (multi-region). It took literally two minutes to set up via HDMI and, with the resolution set to 1080p, the picture quality was a revelation compared to my old player's RGB SCART output. Blacks were black, whites were pure and colours were vivid with absolutely no noise, colour bleed or other artefacts.

The player plays literally anything other than HD video discs including SACD, DVD-A and data discs (CD or DVD) containing files in pretty much every format in common use (including AAC, although not DRM'd files unfortunately) with none of the finickiness I've sometimes experienced with other kit. Audio quality is remarkably good for a player in this price range with SACD and DVD-A playback in particular being good enough that you find yourself wishing these formats hadn't flopped.

If you want a movie player which will exploit your shiny new 1080 HD screen and you're waiting for the HD-DVD versus Blu-Ray format war to resolve itself itself before getting a HD player then you can't go wrong with this one. Highly recommended.

     Amazing Piece Of Equipment

What can i say.........this is, as the title of this review states, amazing!!! I noticed that some people who have posted reviews here, are having a few problems. There are some excellent programs out there for converting your own dvd movies into DivX format. They're not all easy to use, but they do work, and produce superb results on this player.

If you're struggling, try 'Dr. Divx' (available from the DivX labs, via the official DivX site). Another thing to note, is the compatibility with external hard drives......i called Pioneer tech support, just to enquire about hard drive support. The official word is, only certain drive sizes have been tested, and these are usually just flash drives (up to 32GB).

I use a 120GB IDE drive (in an external USB 2 enclosure), and it works great, but i have tried 2 different 500GB drives, and they have performance issues. Pioneer told me that this is because of the buffer size on the player, it isn't large enough to cope with larger drives.

All in all though, a truly amazing player, and well worth every penny :-)

I have used this for over a year now and the picture quality is great on my plasma for DVD's and DIVX movies which I store on a 8gb usb stick.

The main reason for writing this review is that I encountered a problem the other day when I was messing about with different formats for the USB. Apparently you can confuse the player if you try a format it cannot read and then it will not read anything. Luckily all you have to do is switch off at the plug for a while and it all works properly again.

     Brilliant Player

I`am about to purchase another of these players for my brother in law having already brought one for myself and my sister in law. When i recieved mine it was really to replace my aging dvd player and to be able to play divx files,at no point was i expecting it to do both so well and then go on to be connected into a fairly expensive hi fi system and match a stand alone cd player. After years of having lots of seperates I now just have my surround sound amp my hard drive recorder and this little gem under my LCD tv and its all i need,if i could pick any fault the buttons on both the front and the remote are a bit slow to respond but thats forgivable when it does everything else so well and of course full marks to Play.com for their always excellent service.
