 First impression? Excellent !

It's only been out of the box for a couple of hours, but based on first impressions this ticks all the right boxes. It's certainly very stylish (even more so if you switch to a theme other than Sammy); Very light, nice and small (but not stupidly so). I particularly like the fact that the touch controls are not on the screen (unlike the cheap player I have).

It's a birthday present for my wife and this will be her first MP3 player, she's a bit of a technophobe but I'm sure with a little tuition she'll pick it up in no time. One of my criteria is the sleep function, switch off after 30 minutes of playing (rather like your bedside clock radio), this will allow it to be plugged into one of those pillows with built-in speaker (another present - and a great companion).

Suprisingly good video playback - not that I could imagine watch a movie on such a small screen. Videos do have to be converted to SVI (Samsung format), I've not yet tried out the convertion so can't comment on how good this is.

Radio reception is poor in my house, but that's also true for other similar devices - I'm sure it will be fine outside.

The supplied Media Studio software is easy to use, but you have the option of using alternatives (Media Player, Winamp etc.) or just Windows Explorer.

A nice touch is that it can display Cover Art if the ID3 tags include such information.

The device supports Bluetooth, but it appears this is only for headphones - it would have been nice to be able to transfer pictures, videos etc. from a mobile; but this doesn't appear to be the case.

As I say, all this is based on first impressions, but I wouldn't be suprised if I end up buying another one for myself. Certainly if the 30 hour charge life is anywhere near true.

In summary, a quality device - and you don't pay the image premium you would for an iPod. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Sammy is not blue with this gem but he has got bluetooth

After weeks of deciding which MP3 player to go for, I decided on this little pup (you'll understand in a minute).

What swayed my decision was in-built bluetooth, if you have anything wireless, well this dog can use it, easily transfer files to and from your phone or your computer and listen to your music or movies without the need for wires with bluetooth headsets and speakers.
The audio is top quality even with the original earphones acquired with the player and with DNSe you can set your music up the way it was meant to be heard, video qualtiy is also amazing for such a little screen, the video playback is very clear and smooth.
Now to the pup, Sammy the dog make's his first appearance in the World with what can only be described as the coolest GUI to ever grace a screen.

with future firmware updates in store this little pup will only get better.

 2+ years no problems

I received this for Christmas in 2007, it is still going strong. Listen to it almost every night, setting it to switch off after an hour (very handy), and I probably only charge it once a month.

Bluetooth connects to my phone, so interrupts music to answer phone calls while one the bus, also a very handy feature.

Sound and video quality are good - I have loaded my wedding video onto it, so can watch that every now and then too :)

I have read many bad reviews, but must admit, I did get a good one. A great little music player.

Great Bargain.......if you know what you are doing.

I recently got this as a present for a family member (ordered xmas week & it arrived on time :-D)

This is a great deal at this price if you know what to do, I've heard much about its reliability, so I went and checked Samsung's website for a firmware update for this model, the update should correct previous problems and is dated Oct '10 it is v3.06 and not v1.xx as shipped.

If you are a little techno savvy ie you know how to follow Samsung's simple instructions then grab this now, great product.

 amazing and superfast song+video conversion

this is the best mp3 you could possible get for under £100 much better than the nano. the software scans your computer and brings up all your songs, i managed to put 200 songs on my mp3 in 10 minutes including installing the software. it also automaticaly converts all video's except rar. ive got a season of scrubs on mine

EDIT: broke after 4 months, think i might have stepped on it, definatly not rugged but its my fualt so the score wont go down, btw mine has a white screen to
