  A great player - 3 years ago!

Obsolete in 2011.

You do need to update the firmware but it only takes 30 mins, whilst its doing that go get a HDMI cable and you won't be disappointed - the player is fantastic. I connected it to a Samsung HD TV and the picture is amazing.

Superb picture, but has its niggles

If you want to pick a Blu-Ray player for picture quality alone, then look no further. This player is a real bargain...it looks absolutely stunning on my Sony Bravia TV, so much so that I now want to replace my old DVDs with Blu Ray - DVDs just don't seem the same any more! Now the drawbacks...

I've had this player for about 18 months now, and the main problem I found is that it will not sit well inside a closed cabinet. After about 1 hour viewing, the picture and sound starts to drop out, and eventually the disc will come to a stop. I found playing discs with the player outside my cabinet does not have this problem at all, and discs are fine...so only consider this player if you have an open cabinet and don't need to sit anything on top of it.

Also, the loading times to load a disc is very slow, it can sometimes take minutes to get to the main menu (I think this was a common thing with Blu Ray in the past, but may not be as much a problem with newer models).

In fairness, this is a great player if you want a low price entry into starting your Blu Ray collection - just be sure you get the latest firmware to be able to play the more recent discs!

Very good blu ray player for the money

I have had mine now since May and have played about 25 blu rays on it with only one disc proving to be a problem ( all the boys love mandy lane ) and loads of DVDs. On the whole very pleased with the player but it does seem a bit hit a miss from other peoples comments. Def worth keeping firmware up to date which you can get from Samsungs website or plug in an ethernet cable to your home router. Would have given player 5 stars if it had played all my blu rays. Also got this in 2 days so once again great service from Play!

  Not Impressed!

I have had this player for 12 months now and it has just stopped working again for the third time. First the remote broke and Samsung replaced, then I was watching a film and it crashed. Downloaded latest software which took about 30 minutes and was not the easiest or as straight forward as Samsung say. Same thing happened again a couple of months after as I was half way through a film...Not trying to be too critical but I have a Samsung LCD tv and this has had to be repaired 3 times in 12 months....Come on Samsung !! what are you playing at! ..I would recomend that you pay a few more quid and get a proper Blueray player....

This blu ray player is a bit bigger then i expected and also u will have to update firm ware which could take upto 1 hour depending on internet speed but apart from that this player does its job and should last till blu rayer players shrink in size abit and are cheaper to buy.

  amazing picture/sound,,,firmware,,,needed thou,,

Ordered this on christmas eve so i didn't receive it until the following tuesday but as far as picture & sound quality go i cant fault it. Admittedly i upgraded the firmware as soon as i switched it on (by disc) & up to now i've had no problems with the disc's
I've purchased. I know i'll eventually upgrade to a newer model due to this one only being profile 1.0 but if i get a year out of it i'll be happy, and as for the loading times?????? So what if some discs take a bit longer to load than others (dark knight being the only slowish one i own) where's the problem? Do movies in the cinemas come straight on the moment your backside touches the seat?

  Mega !!

I bought this with fingers crossed after reading mixed reviews, however i ordered it and as usual delivery was within two days, well done ! , this was an add on to my Samsung 40" 1080 tv, it does take its time to load, however when you see the picture quality it's worth the wait, it is amazing ....no problems with discs loading so far, at an excellent price it was a fantastic buy and i would urge any Samsung tv owner to buy one of these...the dogs...you know what : )

Samsung BDP1400 - Good, but could be better....

I have had this blu ray player for about 6 months now and I cannot fault the picture or sound when the machine works! I have had various issues regarding discs not working (Dark Knight in particular) but after cocntacting Samsung customer services, being sent an update disc that did not work, I decided to unplug the machine and connect it to my router via an ethernet cable! Although this meant alot of disruption and unplugging of cables etc it has worked a treat! Dark Knight in HD glory was a sight to behold! Although it has to be said the player takes about 4 mintues to actually start the disc once inserted? The firmware update also took about 50 minutes? 5 stars was not going to happen, but due to the picture and sound quality, and the fact the hopefully the firmware issue is now solved? (atleast for the time being) this has to get 4 stars.............. Just be patient when loading discs! Upscaled DVDs are also given a new lease of life! PS - I also own HD DVDs and not had any firmware issues etc with these! But as stated all in all for the money a good way into the (still..) murky world of Blu Ray. Once you seen HD there is no going back to normal DVD players...

Great but keep the firmware up to date

I have had this great player for around 10 months and paid over £200 for it. The picture quality and sound are fantastic with my 42" samsung 1080p TV and Yamaha amp. The only gripe that I have and many others is the playing of newer titles, got Mamma Mia for my wife for Xmas and it wouldn't play until the latest update came out in January. The download was easy and then it was burnt onto a CD - the Samsung website has a PDF file giving very clear instructions. 15 minutes later and all's fixed, movies playing and I'm on the computer as I can't stand ABBA! Just keep the firmware up to date and this player at £99 is an absolute steal.
