5 years ago I was looking at getting a projector. The cost was the main factor why it never happened and during this time a 42ich plasma was doing the job of showing my films and for the main part I was very happy. A few months ago I started reading reviews about optoma and the range of DLP products they make, and everything I read was more than positive. I took the plunge, sold my loved plasma and bought this. In a nut shell (and this is coming from someone who takes their films and equipment very serious) this is the most exciting and best purchase I have ever made!!! The projector I have mounted on the ceiling from a distance if 3.2m and what do I have in front of me? A 92inch wide screen picture in 720p or 1080i depending on what you prefer! The size of the image is just breathtaking. Right the important bits. My projector is connected to a Sony Blu Ray player using a qed signature hdmi cable, I have a full 5.1 dts speaker setup and am using an optoma pull down screen at 92inch widescreen (not the free one included). The quality of the image does not improve on my plasma, however it is very very good, and far outways the asking price! I actually prefer the projected image quality as it looks more cinema and film like compared to a polished plasma image. The colours are rich and vivid, black and white tones are very good, I can notice no colour bleading or rainbow effect what so ever! The 1.3000 lumen brightness is more than enough for even a bright room, and I cant stress enough how quiet this machine is. I have noticed people saying its loud? My playstation 3 fan is louder! I have tuned the colour, contrast and brightness balance using a THX video calibrater and prefer this custom setting to the factory presets. I really cant stress how pleased I am with this little machine! Im so so happy with it. Before I got this I was sceptic, who wouldnt be? But for under £500 you can now have a massive image of brillaint HD quality of your films, games, etc. Friends and family have seen the results and are amazed! If you are thinking of buying this and have read so far, then my parting words will be this, do it, spend some time setting it up propley, and you will wonder why you never bought one earlier! Much praise to optoma and also to Play who deleivered this within 48 hours! Amazing product! In answer to the above question the free screen is an "optoma panoview 16.9 pull down matt screen with a 1.0 gain".

     Colour balance issues.

This is really just some friendly advice rather than a review from an AV engineer who works with projectors daily. For those having strange hue effects with white wall screens try painting your wall a colour called "Grey steel" or "steel grey" its a dulux colour you can have it mixed. There are 4 shades graded 1 to 4 use the lightest one. It looks white but its not this should help with contrast and colour balance. Projector screens are not white! I have a DIY screen made of MDF painted this colour as the walls are not smooth and the image is superb.

     wow

Warning: ensure your 'cart' holds both Screen and Projector before
ordering. If your delivery driver does not have the screen I recommend for simplicity that you do-not-accept the projector. Or only accept it after telephoning 0845-800-1020.
Problem Resolution is handled by staff who have watched too much Little Britain. "Computer says no".

The best buy of my life so far!

Many moons ago I was looking into buying a projector, but the bulb cost, running costs and quality was a major downside so i never bothered.

But after seeing this and reading the reviews i had to take the plunge. and it was well worth it.

The picture quality is brilliant, it is absolutely loaded with features, and best of all its got inputs for everything, cables for everything, which are a good length, it even has a scart adapter in the box!

The initial setup was simple, the adjustable feet are brilliant.

The warm up time of the projector is only 10seconds from standby to full brightness. I have the free panoview screen, which arrive 2 days after the projector (at 11pm, weird, but i guess its because its xmas), the screen is ideal. The remote control has the usual menu buttons etc, but it also has quick function keys for image type (cinema, tv, user etc), edge clipping, brightness, input etc.

The projector manual states that it will project upto a 300" picture. Ive not gone this far yet, ive had about 150" and it was still perfect.

The manual is simple to follow.

Best of all it all comes in a nice box with a carry handle!

Overall I am incredibly happy with this buy and am spending most nights watching big screen films!
