User-friendly technology such as USB Viewer, Picture Frame Mode and the unique Sony menu system, XrossMediaBar (XMB), as featured on the Playstation3, take TV functionality to another level.

HD 1080p
HD 1080p offers you very high resolution to generate it's picture. The 'p' stands for 'progressive scan', which scans all the lines at once to add stability & smoothness to fast-moving images. This makes 1080p TV's excellent for sport broadcast & games.

Intergrated Digital Tuner / Freeview
Having an integrated Digital Freeview Tuner means that your TV has a built in receiver that will give you access to many more channels without the need to have any additional hardware, such as a Freeview box. In 2007, the government began switching UK broadcasting to digital, so if your TV doesn't have an integrated digital tuner feature you wont be able to view any channel without buying the additional hardware.

BRAVIA Engine 2
You can't have too much of a good thing, so we designed BRAVIA ENGINE 2. By using our most innovative technologies like intelligent noise reduction and Advanced Contrast Enhancer, BRAVIA ENGINE 2 builds on the power of the acclaimed BRAVIA ENGINE and adds four new image processing stages. What's more, BRAVIA ENGINE 2 incorporates full digital signal processing, which means that it can enhance many different signals.

diagram
Dynamic Contrast
Contrast ratio is improved and all shades between the brightest white and the darkest blacks are maintained, so the picture has more depth and detail.

This is achieved as the backlight brightness adjusts according to the brightness of the scene. Sony's unique dynamic contrast system features ACE (advanced contrast enhancer) which ensures all of the subtle shades of grey are maintained. The W4000 Series delivers a Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 33,000:1.

diagram
Bravia Sync
BRAVIA Sync enables the control of your TV and peripheral devices with a single BRAVIA remote through menus displayed on your BRAVIA LCD TV.

It is supported by selected Sony Home Theatre Systems, Blu-ray Disc players, Audio/Video Receivers and Handycams. Please check the specification of your other Sony products to ensure that it includes BRAVIA Sync.

XrossMediaBar (XMB)
XMB (XrossMediaBar) is Sonys original graphic user interface that allows for simple operation of various media and content, as seen on the PS3 and PSP. Users can navigate through the different types of media by zapping across icons that are aligned horizontally. After selecting the medium, a list of its content appears as thumbnails vertically.

This is a superb TV with Bravia Engine 2 picture processing. However, why pay play.coms price when you can puchase the same TV with a Blu-ray player and 5 years warranty for £699!!

I bought this TV from Play in January 09 for £799 with the 3 year warranty, our local Sony centres were doing it for £999 with a 5 year warranty down from £1190 - it is even more of a bargain at £749 with 3 year warranty. It is simply stunning, excellent connections. I use a reference class component feed, HDMI upscaled 1080i & Sky HD. Onboard freeview tuner is passable but much better picture comes from a 1080i upscaler like BTVision or Sky HD showing Freeview, feed this TV a decent signal and it will stun.

 Fantastic TV Great Price

This tv is excellent! Very well priced and quite possible the best tv for £800 on the market (got mine elsewhere + 5 year warrenty)! Everything looks smashing on it in 1080p and it has a very very clear motion picture! It plays football games really smoothly! I knew this was the best tv i could ever imagine to buy. I did my research on dozens of tvs from all the different companies- stood next to them all comparing which was the better and this tv is by far superior to all the rest. Unless you want to pay well in excess of £1300 then go for a pioneer. Otherwise get this tv and you will not be disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 quality LCD

Ive seen many lcds from many manufacturers , i own a Sony s3000 myself, i waited for some time to get that perfect TV, i skipped the w3000 as it had few issues, now that i have this TV I'm blown away with its performance, the blacks can easily rival most off the plasma in the market, there is no backlight bleed, no clouding issues like many other sets on the market. The SD picture quality is good nice vibrant colours, good detail. blue ray will blow you away picture is so detailed and sharp, whites are just as good as the blacks, Call Off Duty 4 on the ps3 is brilliant no motion blur to report and no input lag issues. Overall this set is probably the best LCD on the market and it is under £1000, i think that bravia engine 2 is a big improvement over the old engine. The only TV i would consider 2ND place would be the Panasonic LZ85 which is was considering to buy.
