If I didn't have one of these already in Silver, I would have bitten Play.com's hand off for one.

This is, quite simply, the best AV receiver you will ever get for 200 quid. Mark my words, upscaling to HDMI and Component, full 7.1 support. In fact, I wonder if my mum "needs" one???

  Absolute Bargain

I bought this amp just over a year ago and paid around 500
I have to say that even at that price this was one of my best ever purchases.
But at 200, this has to be one of the best bargains ever.
Don't hesitate or it will be gone, you won't regret it for a second

  Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic

I think the above says it all.... It is a must buy for the price, everything you need in the amp. Connect a set of good speakers like Tannoy/KEF and the sound is fantastic, the clerity is awesome. Just take ya time setting the system up and you will not look back!!!!! If I had to find a fault, watch the size of the unit, make sure it will fit were you want it to go. I had to unscrew the legs on the system to fit it in my unit. but really that wa down to me for not checking. BUY THIS SYSTEM!!!!

  Great sound.....but i got a dud!

Bought this to replace my sony 940AV amp due to its poor music ability and disappointing bass. Its a good upgrade.... if it worked correctly! Very musical and has good bass with music, great bass with movies(no sub required if you have the right speakers). However when listening to a multi channel DVD at around -15db i hear a very annoying loud hiss from all speakers! Switch to 2 channel on the same DVD and it goes away. Sounds like a processing fault when decoding 5.1/7.1, no problems on the other inputs. Asking Play for a replacement, i hope they havn't got a bad batch as this would be a great amp if all was working correctly.

  good at the price

a good all round reciever that does a masterful job on your sound but occassionly it could tend to have a mind of its own and do something out of the ord which you didnt command it to do mb its something to do with the bravia sync on my tv mb not! therefore i give it a 4! it would deserve a 5 if not for this cause the sound it produces through my kefs is exciting to say the least but then again kefs sound well anyhow! buy at the price!!

  Just excellent

This receiver is ready to handle all the equipment with 4 HDMI, two optical in, digital co-ax, and even optical out. I have a Sony Blu player, PS3, Sky HD, and Bravia TV all connected up and KEF speakers. The sound is superb!!! I think the real gem is the 24p output with all the necessary decoding being done in the box so to speak. The kit is even X.V. ready.... but lets see if that become relevant in the future. If you do spend this much on the amp then definitely go for a filtered power, decent HDMI cables, good optical, and decent speaker cable. You wont be disappoined. I recommend using the Sony setup to get the 'recommended' settings and then just adjusting slightly with the manual settings. With everything on screen this is easy to do.

Superb quality audio and video !! I output Sky HD via component (channel 2) and upscale to 1080p, so that all channels, even the worst SD ones, give a quality picture.
Sound via Sky , Blu Ray and DVD are superb, it handles cinematic pyrotechnics with aplomb and also handles the subtle atmospheric parts superbly.
CDs sound awesome too, finally I have one box that will cover all my musical and video needs.
I previously owned an expensive Yamaha and despite the mags raving about Yams, I would recommend you stick to this Sony and this price range, from my experience this is the best quality you can hope for and you will not notice any difference if you spend twice as much.
I run this through B&W M1 s + B&W subwoofer.
The lip sync mentioned elsewhere, is occasionally noticeable on Sky channels, but it does vary from channel to channel and is the Sky source as far as I'm concerned, it was no better on the expensive Yam, I previously owned, so definitely not the fault of the Sony. Most channels are fine and you can adjust the delay via your Sky HD box as well as this Sony unit anyway, but for most Sky channels you really won't need to.
Buy and enjoy....

This is an absolute cracking receiver. As long as you have it set up correctly your music cd's will sound great, but you must have a decent set of speakers,i've got the Jamo 102's.Surround sound is also fantastic. There are so many settings on it that it can become frustrating, but read the manual and you will eventually be blown away. When i first lifted it out of the box and saw all the connection options it was quite frightening after spending £400,i sat down and wondered whether i had made a big mistake purchasing it,but stick with it and connect your equipment a bit at a time and then move onto the next etc and don't be tempted to keep fiddling with it and it will reward you with a fantastic home entertainment system

I researched long and hard before deciding on this amp. At the price i feel it can't be beaten. I have a 5.1 mission speaker set up including active subwoofer. The difference between my old system (denon 1507) and this is outstanding. The dialogue is more detailed and clearer, the bass is cleaner and has more attack, and the overall soundstage is much more clearly defined.
I run a ps3, sky hd and sony dvd recorder through hdmi and wii via component. The picture is even better, but this may more to do with upgrading the hdmi cables.
Overall, i would strongly recommend this amp, its awesome!!

  sony 2400es top notch

There are three receivers people normally debate at this price point, the onkyo 606, the denon 1909 and this. Having researched all three this amp comes out on top. It has all the connections required for a home av system, is easy to set up if you follow the intructions to the letter and sounds excellent. I have it set up in 7.1 from a ps3 and the sound is clear and detailed. I also have sky hd through optical for 5.1 dd (has latest firmware), dvd through coax, ps3 though hdmi and wii. A strong av amp and good value for money.
