Only took delivery of these 24 hours ago. I bought them to use with my ipod touch as in ear phones do not suit me at all, no matter how much they cost.
I am very hard to please where sound quality is concerned. I am a Hi-Fi enthusiast and my headphones I use at home when its to late for speakers cost over seven hundred pounds.
I was not expecting miracles from a minute inexpensive closed back headphone, I just wanted a reasonable sound and some degree of comfort. So how surprised was I when I plugged them in?
WHAT A FANTASTIC SOUND! The first thing I noticed was the amazing bass response, it really is nothing short of outstanding, especially bearing in mind how small these cans are. It is tight, punchy yet so smooth ,lovely to listen to. The midrange is neutral very open and again very easy on the ear and lastly the treble is detailed, controlled and yet never appears harsh or fatiguing. All for this price!
The second thing I noticed was that I couldn't feel them on my head, very comfortable. Light weight and unassuming as these type of headphone should be. Very good again.
One last thing. I have to mention. The design of both the phones and the packing ,its very very clever. I appreciate details so I have to give it a mention. The headphones themselves fold up so very neatly and precisely with all the joints and moving parts uncomplicated yet so well made they inspire confidence. Once folded the PX200's slide very neatly into their own plastic carry case with built in cable tidy. A nice touch and quite tough.
So to sum up. A great pair of mini headphones from Sennheiser. Fabulous sound quality for their size, a very comfortable positive fit and imaginative, clever storage.
These headphones punch well above their price range. A BARGAIN!
I've owned a pair of these for nearly 6 years now. I use them pretty much every day at work; they are light, comfy on the ear, they don't feel like your head is in a vice and they are still to show any major sign of wear (though they do live in the case when not being used - I'm a geek like that). Also being closed back you shouldn't get complaints from the person next to you on the bus or train (unless you have your player maxed out).
The product page fails to quote the frequency response - my box stated 8Hz-20kHz. If you turn your music up, you ~will~ feel it in your head. I listen to a range of styles including rock, metal electronica, country ~and~ western (give yourselves 5 points if you get the movie reference) - Massive Attacks Unfinished Sympathy, QotSA Song for the Dead or Elbows MirrorBall, will leave you with no doubt over their bass reproduction. With a top end capped at 20kHz, some crispness could be claimed to be lost over other headphones but in my opinion not enough to mark them down and if you're still reading this review, you're here for the bass anyway.
Ultimately, of course, your sound maker (amp / mp3 / mp4 player) will have the last say on the balance. Hooked up to both my ageing brick of an iRiver iHp400 with a flat EQ and Yamaha AX630 (yea, that's ageing too) I've never regretted buying this model.
I just wish they made a pair of desktop speakers that sounded the same.
I've owned about seven pair of earphones over the past year or so (seriously). I've spent a small fortune on the 'sound isolating' style 'phones and found all of them to be extremely uncomfortable and produce a very unpleasant effect of magnifying your breathing, so you feel as if your heavy breathing whilst walking. Not very nice.
The PX200s however provide a wonderfully crisp and detailed output, without the intrusive feeling of in-ear phones. The faux-leather earpads and headband pads will give you hours of listening pleasure without the aches and pains. They fold nicely away and come with a (rather bulky) storage case, which isn't really needed for everyday use. The other bonus is that there is minimal stress on the cord. No wrapping around the neck that is the downfall of many earphone cords.
If you can live with having to have a heaphone band across your head and aren't precious about your hairstyle getting messed up then these are an essential purchase.
I'd even go as far to say that they come close to rivalling the B&O A8 phones for sound presentation. Yes, they are that good!
Now click 'BUY'.
These have brilliant sound quality as you would expect from Sennheiser. They do a good job in attenuating background noise and unlike most in ear headphones let *you* hear the music and not everyone else around you.
The are a bit bulky and fiddly to put away in the case though.
I liked the sound and comfort from these, and they keep your ears warm in cold weather. However, they had to be returned because the lead started to come apart where it joins the jack connector. Shame. Play.com very good about refunding etc.
