4 The future has arrived and it's Blu!Alphahale | 11/10/2008 | See all Alphahale's reviews (1)This machine is worth the investment. It's got it functionality and it's stylish. The BDP-S350 is relatively easy to use. After set up it's just like using a DVD player. The menu screen is simple and so easy to navigate that your Nan could use it. It is the same GUI as the one used on both the PSP and PS3.Set-up involves connecting the device via Ethernet cable ( although you can purchase a wireless device to obtain updates). Additional memory is required in the form of a 'MicroVault Tiny 1Gh'. This can be purchased for less than £10. This is essential if you wish to use BD Live. The Memory plugs into the back of the machine in the Ext. Memory slot.Picture and sound quality are as you would expect from next Gen. equipment. Its clear, crisp and very detailed. The machine itself is whisper quiet and in 'Quick Start' mode boots up in 6 seconds. Although it does take additional time to read and load the media in the drive.Bravia Theatre Sync enabled allows you to programme the BD to turn off with the TV's sleep timer function. BONUS!Power consumption has been reduced for this model over its predecessor the BDP-S300. In some modes the consumption has been reduced by up to 55%, thus allowing you to reduce both your running costs and your carbon footprint.Well done Sony this machine is well thought out and performs well. This Player runs in both 24p and 60Hertz therefore no need to worry over whether your TV supports the former format. The only drawback I can see at present is that due to the clarity of the sound you do need to turn up the volume a lot. But hey you'll get use to it, you did with the VHS to DVD switchover.I recommend anyone purchase this machine. But feel upgrading from the BDP-S300 is a waste of time and money. Best waiting for the BDP-S550 to be released in those circumstances as it comes with a beautiful backlit remote control and 1Gh of storage. Plus it'll be pre-installed with BD-Live software allowing you to take advantage of its extra functionality from the get go. Enjoy.
