HD Ready
To appreciate just how good a high definition picture is, it helps to know how TVs, DVDs and VHS worked in the past. Until recently, there was only one type of broadcast format - Standard definition - SD. With SD, the level of detail in the picture resolution is limited. SD has a resolution of 720 X 576, which means 576 horizontal lines of 720 pixels each. Pixels are the dots which make up a digital picture. The new HD formats boost resolution far beyond SD, giving your TV a level of clarity and detail that is absolutely breathtaking.

Intergrated Digital Tuner / Freeview
Having an integrated Digital Freeview Tuner means that your TV has a built in receiver that will give you access to many more channels without the need to have any additional hardware, such as a Freeview box. In 2007, the government began switching UK broadcasting to digital, so if your TV doesn't have an integrated digital tuner feature you won't be able to view any channel without buying the additional hardware.

BRAVIA Engine
BRAVIA Engine is the high picture performance engine used in the latest Sony LCD televisions. An original picture tuning and noise reduction process was developed by Sony to guarantee vivid and high contrast images. The complex noise reduction process enhances low contrast images until they are crisp and realistic, and processes blues, greens and whites within each frame to generate the richness and colour accuracy.

diagram
Dynamic Contrast
Contrast ratio is improved and all shades between the brightest white and the darkest blacks are maintained, so the picture has more depth and detail.

This is achieved as the backlight brightness adjusts according to the brightness of the scene. Sony's unique dynamic contrast system features ACE (advanced contrast enhancer) which ensures all of the subtle shades of grey are maintained. The V4000 Series delivers a Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 30,000:1 (37" 22,000:1).

BRAVIA Theatre Sync
BRAVIA Theatre Sync is a new way of controlling Home Theatre setups. Using HDMI connections and one remote control, signals can be sent between the various units that make up the system. BRAVIA Theatre Sync is designed to cut out any complexity so you can concentrate on enjoying the movie. Just one push of a button and the audio equipment and TV are switched on, the correct inputs selected and the Blu-ray DiscTM or DVD player starts to play.

HDMI Sockets
The V4000 Series has 3 x HDMI inputs (two on rear, one on side, all with CEC) make it even easier to connect to High Definition sources such as Blu-ray Disc and PLAYSTATION3

 Worth The Wait !

Ordered this on 2 Jan 09 and have only just received it which tested my patience to the limit as the same TV was on offer at other outlets but without the extended guarantee. Glad I waited and also glad I bought it then as i see it has gone up in price by quite a bit. I suspect the price is due mainly to it's popularity and who can blame people for wanting one of these, it simply makes my old TV look outdated.
I have read lots of other reviews and disagree with most of the negative points and cant see the ghosting on some of the faster moving pictures and definitely think it is the most easy to set up TV I have ever owned.
Buy it and you will not be disappointed.

 You'd be crazy not to!!

Mine arrived this morning and was up and running within 10 min. The set up is incredibly easy (indeed I hardly had to do anything aside from tell it which language to use and which country it was in) and certainly leagues ahead of pretty much any other TV I've owned.

The quality of the picture is similarly impressive, pin sharp with vivid colours and so far none of the usual problems which seem to plague LCD's.

Sound is equally good with a variety of effects and adjustments possible. Its punchy but doesn't lack clarity or refinement.

This is the first Sony TV I've owned and I'm very impressed with it.
The price Play are selling it at is unbelievably good compared to the high street and the 3 year warranty is the icing on a very tasty cake.

You'd have to be crazy not to!!

Why the hell did I wait so long to buy this TV?

I was contemplating for over 3 weeks whether to buy this tv or not. I'm a student, so cash is always tight, but I needed a good HD tv for my PS3. Well I really wish now that I had bought this straight away!

Because I waited so long, Play seemed to run out of stock, saying that it would take 4-5 days to be dispatched. I decided to buy it from another site, and obviously lost out on the fantastic warranty deal, but still got it cheap. Anyway, as soon as it arrived, I saw that it was packaged very well, like all Sony products are. Out of the box, you get the usual stand, remote, batteries and booklets etc. Attaching the stand to the tv is a piece of cake using the 3 screws provided. By the way, the stand is excellent, allowing the screen to be swivelled and providing excellent viewing angles (invaluable when space is limited).

The picture on this tv is incredible. I had a 36" sony crt tv, which i feverently defended, always saying that even HD couldn't beat its crispness and detail. Well...... this tv blows it's socks off and it's not even 1080p!!! The detail is incredible. Please do it justice by playing a blu-ray disc or next gen console game on this tv. Don't judge it by running an SD channels on it. (Btw, there is a built in freeview tuner, but I haven't had a chance to use it).

The sound is excellent. The two speakers below the set provide very clear sound. It's crisp when required, but also has bass. I DO recomment investing in a home theatre system though, if you're going to use this tv in a living room. I might as well just put it out there that this tv has virtual dolby surround sound which kind of mimics the effect of an actual surround sound system.

The finish of the tv is very sexy. Although it's not the greatest looking tv on the market (I love panasonic's styling), it has a very nice piano black finish, which complements the PS3. This shiny black is now the norm for tvs, as silver is not out of date. It'll look good in any living room. It's not the thinnest tv set, but mounted on a wall it looks very good.

To conclude, this is an excellent tv for the price. You won't get a better tv, made by a better brand for cheaper than this. Trust sony, they know their stuff. There's no other manufacturer I buy things this expensive from. Couple with the fact that you get a 3 yr extended warranty, YOU CANNOT GO WRONG.

To the people that are giving this set 3 stars for finding out that it's not 1080p... please stop. It's hasn't been claimed that it is 1080p. Look at the description, which clearly states "1366x768".... which means 720p. There is an AUSTRAILIAN sony tv of the same model number (KDL-32V4000) which is 1080p, but this ain't it.

 Fantastic!

After visiting a few shops etc and reading reviews online i decided to go for this Sony. Nothing but raving reviews and i can see why!

This TV has everything you could want and performs way way above the price it is being sold at. I have seen TV's costing double that don't offer the same level of viewing and sound! The in-built freeview is excellent as was hooking up to a Wii.
Another excellent feature is that this TV has a proper 'off' button on the top! For some reason most TV's now have cute little standby buttons which in this energy saving time is not too helpful. Also has a very solid and good looking stand.

If you are considering this TV then get it now whilst it is such a good price, you wont be dissapointed.

ps, as always very prompt from Play, said 4-5 days dispatch but was actually dispatched in 3 days so actually quicker than they had said!
