I bought the Sony MDR-XB300 after a fair bit of research and it had glowing reviews all over the web. But the sound quality just isn't up to my liking. It is only suitable for music with heavy bass, every other type of music sounds distorted because the bass effect persists and they are delivered with a loud thump and rumble. Disappointing.
Otherwise the product has very good build quality, the ear cushions are really soft and comfortable and they rest like pillows on your ears. They also block a good deal of ambient noise. The head band is made of quality plastic that can be adjusted for a snug fit. The cable is flat so that it resists tangling. It is also short (1.2 metres) and so the headphones can be easily used at a computer. The gold plated connector fits standard 3.5 mm jacks properly (including those on iPods). Overall the product looks like it is built to last. If only the phones could deliver non-bass music without the bassy distortion.

MDR-XB300 headphones punching above it's weight

These are worth a lot more money than the price, i have an android phone and added a very good mp3 player app, so needed headphones to match the bass output, the MDR-XB300 are very comfortable and have the frequency range needed for Drum'n'Bass and Dubstep which is my prefered music.
can't fault these cans at all, pure distortion-free music, a must have for a middle-weight that gives heavy-weights a run for their money.

these headphones are super comfortable, the bass is does NOT over power the rest of the music, the bass is real nice and smooth and not harsh like the skull-candy skulls-crushers. I can finally here all the sounds that my laptop speakers left out, and at 20 pounds from play they are a BARGIN! buy them quick before the discount runs out!

Great bass, but that's about it.

If you listen to nothing but bassy music go for it, these headphones were made for DnB. But for anything else they aren't great.

When I used these to play video games I got a headache pretty quickly. I was expecting it to sound like my other headphones (Sennheiser HD 215) but with some louder, bassier explosions, instead every single noise was accompanied by a low rumble that got annoying after a few minutes.

Build quality is very good and they're extremely comfortable. The best thing about them is the noise deadening, once they're on your head you're practically deaf to the outside world, making your music sound even louder.

Although these only get used when listening to one music genre, I don't regret buying them at all, they are great value for money and are exactly what they are advertised as.

  Quality Headphones

This are amazing headphones, i purchased these after getting fed up of the apple in ear headphones. They are well build and the material used for the cushion part is very soft making them extremely comfortable, you forget your wearing them. Also if anyone was wondering if i use these with my iphone 4 and have the apple bumper around the edge, the good thing about these headphones is you dont have to remove the bumper to plug the headphones in the stork type thing is long enough which is nice. The only downside to these headphones is that the cushions are completely flat so if you have a small head like me they tend to slip off. Overall they are very good headphones with amazing thumping bass not recommended of films , well build with a good price. Would recommend

These headphones are amazing if listening to dubstep, hip hop or anything else where bass is involved, incredible!
The ear pads are comfy and the bass is really good, even at a low volume.
If buying for films or music where the bass isn't so involved then the sony XD 200's are probably a better buy for you, if you want bassline then definitely get these!

The over all build of these headphones is not something to worry over they seem tough and sturdy, the cord is a good length for portable devices that go in your pocket, at 1.2m. the comfort is above anything else in it's price range. the sound quality is just fantastic nice and bassy, loud and clear enough for any type of music, not as bassy as what some have said though so dont be scared off, its not overbearing (if you like your bass). btw i use a sony nwz-e436f mp3/4 player so perhaps they compliment each other very well, i dont know what an ipod would sound like with these.

these are very average headphones, bass is not good as they say it is plus they are waaay too big which makes you look like a dodo, waste of money buying em shouldve paid extra and got better ones, youre better off buying the Sennheiser CX300 II Precision which are quality!!!

Very good product and would reccomend this product to anyone who loves the bass and looking for something which is very confartable.

Also they are very light and the actual speacker is very big so it fits around the ear nicely which also keep my ear's warm in cold weather.

Once again Very Good Product!!!

I'll keep it simple;

If you listen to alot of Hip-Hop, Rap, Drum & Bass or any genre of music that consists of a heavy bass, then these headphones are more than perfect.

Lovely bass
ear pieces extremelty comfortable
Design is slick & "cool"
Love the flat wires.
excellent price for a pair of Sonys.

Listening to any other non bass music sounds rubbish (E.g rock)
The headband feels fragile & will break at any moment.
The Sony X-Bass MDR-XB300s dont come with a carrying bag, like claimed.

Overall, if you're a bass junkie then they're are perfect, a rock fan should go with another.
They're extremely comfortable, but have a fragile feel to them

For the £29.99 Play.com is offering, i would give them a try. (Well, i already have..You know what i mean)..
