Great sound and value for money

This unit is a pretty good 'at home' solution when you want to stream music from your A2DP-bluetooth enabled phone, mp3 player or laptop.

Size:
It's not portable - the unit's the size of a shoebox and only mains powered, so think of it sitting on a shelf or on a counter rather than packing it in your suitcase for holiday tunes...

Set-up:
Linking up to your bluetooth devices is pretty straightforward - It'll take you all of five minutes (if that) to unpack, link and start streaming your music. First time you have to manually adjust the volume on the unit to get it to a satisfactory level, but once done you can leave the volume buttons on the unit alone and just adjust the sound level from your mp3/phone/laptop.

Sound:
OK, this is a five star review because the unit is excellent for what it is, not because it's some kind of audiophiles dream. The sound is room-filling, clear, decent bass and depth, have notched up the volume *pretty* high and noticed no distortion. It has Sony's megabass circuitry built in which is permanently on - to good effect. It has a relatively small sweet-spot, outside of which it's hard to notice the stereo separation.

My experience with bluetooth A2DP stereo streaming to-date is that it "must try harder". Quite a flat sound, lack of separation, a lack of depth and bass seems to be the norm with bt headphones and speakers. Have heard quite a few, and up to now the best sound/price balance experienced is from the SE MBS100 speaker - A portable monoaural unit the size of a grapefruit. Even then it worked great w SE phones, but with non-SE phones and a Samsung MP3 player it's volume performance is distinctly average to lacklustre. Frankly, music sounds MUCH better through wired headphones, and in most cases through wired docks of comparable cost.

However in this case, the BT100 does a Really Good job, and performed superbly with a variety of sources (Samsung MP3 player, SE phone, LG phone)and gave distinctly decent renditions of different music styles, from classical to bass-heavy dance remixes. I'd say it's comparable to the sound from a micro hifi...Just remember the stereo separation issue, however in partial answer to that any sound effect used by your music player eg stereo-widening, theatre etc does make a difference through the Sony unit, so do experiment to get the sound you want.

Price:
Ok had been looking at this for a little while on another site that claims to be 'Amazin' at about £57 but actually ended up getting it here for £29.99 delivered - which makes it frankly brilliant value for money (especially as on some sites its still £90!), and helps confirm it as a 5-star buy.

Just amazing! Going to buy another!

Well yet another high quality Sony bargain from Play.com. Having recently bought the 16gb bluetooth A829 mp3 walkman from Play (i don't know how i missed the 10% discount offer with this speaker!) i just had to buy this bluetooth speaker.
Fast delivery from Home Delivery Service, upstairs, out of the box, plug in mains cable, turn on, hold 'ID Set' button for 7 seconds, pair with your bluetooth device, simple as that!
I paired the BT100 with the A829 and A818 effortlessly.
For the price, it is amazing. Loud music, crisp clear, great highs and deep bass. Could not ask for more considering its size.
It looks great, does not weigh much at all yet still looks and feels solid.
At the loudest volume, it is still crisp clear, just excellent quality!
There is an input connection on the back if you want to play via a physical connection.
For anyone with the Sony WLA-NWB1 bluetooth dongle, i had no problem connecting wirelessly when using the A818.
thanks Play!

 Excited unpacking but soon disappointed!

A remarkably ill-defined, unnatural and boxy sound to emanate from such a large cabinet is surprising when you consider, for example, the Sony CPF-NW001 is half the size yet sounds more than twice as good! I would give it one star if it were not so cheap but would have preferred Sony to have installed some decent sounding speakers even if that did bump up the price. Other than the sound I could not fault the bluetooth connectivity, in particular that it works with the iPhone and Sony TMR-BT8iP iPod transmitter. Conclusion: If you are not bothered about sound quality and do not want to pay more then you'll be happy with the SRS-BT100, otherwise better to look elsewhere.

Really pleased - Ace product for the money

Excellent product for 30quid.
Sounds are really good, nice modern look... not too big, but big enough to pound the tunes with nice (enough) bass..
pretty loud without distortion.. if i want anythign louder there's a proper stereo for that.. for what it is it really is ace.

Mobile phone connected in seconds and sounds great .. internet radio streaming is great too.. enjoying some internet streamed reggae radio, sat in the bank holiday sun in my garden with a beer right now in fact .. happy days indeed

---
for anyone struggling to get internet radio and connect their laptop/desktop via Vista (?) .. i connected in seconds and streaming internet radio no problems.. well chuffed :)
How to :
Enable and open both your Bluetooth connection and then search for the speaker from your pc's Bluetooth Devices.

The speaker should be showing in "Audio devices", connect/set passkey to "0000" (as per manuals instructions),

After that, in "BT Devices"..click "Audio" , look for the Sony device and then click "Connect".

Once connected, right click the "Sound/Volume Icon" bottom right toolbar, choose "Playback Devices".

Highlight "Speakers - bluetooth stereo audio", and then click "Set Default". Your audio should now play through the Sony BT speaker (instead of your computers speakers).

enjoy.

What a deal and it's a great product too!!!

For all the previous reviewers who have mentioned such ignorant comments as "Not as good as Bose!" or "Bit too large compared to my iPod dock" get a grip you weirdos!!!

Firstly, it costs a mere tenth, yes TENTH!!! of the price of a Bose sound dock (which may i remind you doesn't even have a bluetooth function!!!) and i must let you know i love Bose stuff and always go for high end stuff however this item is just too good to miss out on.

Secondly, it's bigger than your pathetic little Altec Lansing or whatever iPod docks you have because A: it's got better bass and B: it's better built and louder!

To review this item fairly you have to put the product into proportion as to the cost, the standard of the item and customer satisfaction for the money parted with.

Based on all these factors i truly believe that i have never spent £30 on anything better in my life. Superb doesn't even come close.

Connection was so easy and straight forward, good range on it, great sound (when you use an EQ - for the dimebars who said it wasn't!) and most of all it's a SONY!!!

I am that impressed i have bought two more as spares (and before you say "well if it's that good it shouldn't break", i am using mine in a summer house containing my hot tub so it is subject to immense amount of condensation all the time and i would miss it too much if i didnt have it) just because for £30 it is unbeatable.

How they can pay for the shipping, materials, development, labour and give play a profit too on this i don't know but well done Sony.

My fave purchase of the year! (2nd to my Audi A4 Cabriolet with Bose system in!)
