Samsung 26 inch LE26R74BDX/XEU Freeview HD Ready Widescreen LCD TV (Black)

The TV has an excellent screen and the colours that are displayed are just amazing. The TV makes all your films (HD and SD (standard definition)) look amazing. The connectivity on the TV is also great and can have multiple items plugged in at once. The on screen menu is very easy to navigate around. The DTV mode (digital TV/ freeview also has its own reminder for start times on programs. It also has a full 24 hour schedule on all channels. The TV offers digital audio output which means if your cinema system/ speakers allow the connection you can have extra detail in sounds so every little detail is heard.

As the TV is Samsung you can just tell that it is a great TV. The TV looks great too, the shiny black finish is also great because it looks expensive and adds to the overall look and feel of the TV.

When I got this TV, it cost £640 and it was retailing at £800 in most places. I was happy with the price then so the current price is amazing (even with the new model including 2 HDMI ports is coming soon).

The only 2 (minor) complaints I have about this system are:
1) It only has one HDMI port (more of an issue now than when I bought it)
2) Switch between inputs could be nicer as you have to step through each external input to get to HDMI rather than having AV1, AV2, AV3, VGA, HDMI buttons. It is however clever enough that if you have it on HDMI from watching a DVD (for example) but put on a scart source, it automatically shows the scart source. When you turn the HDMI device on, it automatically switches back to it as well.

Overall, a very nice TV and exceptional value for money. If I was looking for a second TV (I prefer 40" + for a main TV) then I would happily buy or recommend one of these TV's, or any other of the TV's in the Samsung range.

If buying a Samsung LE model, make sure that you first are aware that the tv set is only 50 hertz and not 60 hertz. The pc mode will run at 60 hertz using the vga lead with the xbox 360 and there is no problems, a good quality cheap lcd with good graphical output. I am not an engineer so you may need to research further, but with some games being 60 hertz if you are using component for your 360 ie 1080i you may find bleeding of colours etc if you buy the vga lead which is only 20 quid the 360 will upscale dvd to 720p so i have been informed on the web, and the picture quality is a much cleaner refined quality. The sound quality on my LE 23 although not bad isn't brilliant but I am using a samsung home cinema system with optical cable and 5.1 digital surround sound so this doesn't matter. Don't let me put you off the set, it is good value for money, just make sure you planned to or don't mind using the vga lead with the 360 because it looks much better than with the component leads.… more »
