Made with a traditional Mason Jar and high tech energy efficient lighting! Captured inside the jar are a highly efficient solar cell, rechargeable battery and low energy LED lamp. When the jar is placed in sunlight, the solar cell creates an electrical current that charges the battery over a few hours. This energy is then used at night to power the LED lamp inside the jar. The light emitted is diffused by the frosted jar and gives the appearance of sunlight. (A warm - coloured LED light is used to give a more natural light). You may have noticed that there is no switch on the Sun Jar - in fact there are no visible controls at all. A light sensor inside the jar automatically activates the lights when it gets dark (or the lights are turned out!)

I cant understand the bad reviews this has had so far, lets go through some points, this is a light for ambience! Not for filling a room with light! Its the same as a lava lamp, would you read a book with just a lava lamps light, no you wouldn't.

Secondly if anyone bothered to read the instructions they would know it comes with a rechargeable battery and doesn't need to be replaced! And that if you read the instructions you will find that in winter it wont charge as well as it would in summer and last time i checked this was blighty not the bahamas! So in that respect its the same as most other solar powered lights, and its an led inside not a xenon bulb!

Personally i think its a great gift, and its the cheapest i have seen so far on t'interwebs it gives off a nice pleasing warm glow, so it would be great for whereever you might want a bit of atmosphere, you could even put them in the garden in the summer! I bought the sun and moon jar for my mother and i know she will love them, im considering getting one for myself.

As soon as the Sun Jar arrived, the clouds came out and it rained.I followed the easy to understand instructions, then I placed my jar on the window sill and waited... that evening, as soon as it got dark, it lit up a brilliant orange! I am so impressed, that I have told my friends to buy one. This is truly a great way to light up a cloudy day. It would be a good safe 'nite lite' for a child....

I haven't made up my mind about this yet. I bought it as a present for someone, but as the birthday is a couple of weeks away, I thought I would try it out first.
Worked great the first night after leaving it on a sunny windowsill for a few hours, but wasn't so good after the second time, it just blipped every few seconds and was really irritating so I turned it off. The third day today and it didn't work at all!
Have changed the battery for a better quality one, and will see how it works tomorrow, but have got a feeling I may be sending this back! If the battery doesn't doesn't charge up then I don't see the point.

 Lovely Glow!

I have two of these, the sun jar and the moon jar. Both are lovely and do glow for quite a long time after spending several hours in the sun. Would recommend to those who like mood lighting.

I noticed a couple of people saying theirs hardly produced any glow. I did too notice this initially but then I realised the light detectors [which are beside the solar panels] that turn them on when it gets dark enough are very sensitive, so if you are in a room that has lights, lamps or even a bright TV on, the light detectors will cause the LED in the jar to dim.

A way to make sure the jar glows its brightest is to put a piece of cardboard over the solar panel and close the jar shut. That way no light can enter the top of the jar and cause the detector to make the LED dim.

A tip. With some care, you can lift the solar panel off and replace the battery with a better one or[in the rainy seasons] you can remove the battery in it and charge it with a wall charger.

Also, With some more care, you can take off the tubing that surrounds the LED, remove it and replace the LED with a different coloured one if you so desire. Just make sure you know what your doing. :)

Anyway, great wee product, those who love mood lighting will love it.

Does exactly what it's meant to

Ignore the negative reviews and the stuff about buying batteries. The people who wrote those probably bought this item thinking one charge would light up their entire house for a year. The item works great, but I found that you can't leave it on all day otherwise the power drains (which is probably not so much of a problem in Summer as it is in Winter). I bought this in January and got the best results by turning it on later in the evening and turning it off in the morning. When I did leave it on all day (in January) it was noticeably dimmer.
