just what i needed to highlight where my mum and dad are in heaven
I was browsing through the gifts list last year when I came across this. I read the review 'Something to leave behind - a Legacy' and was so overwhelmed that I emailed all of my friends and family as to how beautiful this was and the perfect gift. I lost my Mum 6 years ago and thought it amazingly fitting and somthing very special to be able to look up to the stars and imagine she was looking down at me (or at least a star named after her - something I could identify with when I looked into the stars). Whenever I see fireworks, I cry, because my Mum loved them so much and it was wonderful to have family get togethers where we would watch them. After she died, we raised £7000 in her name towards Cancer charites and the weekend was completed with fireworks shooting into the night sky. I had a lump in my throat when I looked up and thought of her.
Last Christmas, I received this gift from my Partner and Husband to be. He was unaware of the email I had sent and yet he thought it was the perfect gift for me. He was not so suprised when I was filled with emotion and said I wanted to name it after my Mum (Pamela Fitzgerald nee Gennis).
This is truly a Legacy to leave behind and a lovely story to tell your Children and Grandchildren. A hard gift to beat, I think.
but few people realise that this is a novelty item only. There is no database in the world where your star will be known by the name you call it. The same star may be named hundreds of times over. This present simply picks a random star in the sky and prints a certificate telling you that you have named it. Fun, but not real.
Guys this is amazing. My Grandad passed away 2 years ago and my nan has never been the same and then i saw this. She always used to say when i was little that when she dies to look to the stars and we would be able to see her. Now that Grandad has passed away i wanted somethin to give her somethin to keep with her. Knowing that my grandad, Her husband is still there looking down on us and making sure we stay on course. This is gonna be a great christmas present and i know she is gonna love it !!
Name a star is a lovely thought for someone. The presentation is nice enough and comes with a sky map (wall chart) to find your map as well as some details to get your star registered online.
The map we got told us our star was only visable at the equator, but this is wrong as further research shows it is viewable (with equipment) from the UK.
The other thing to bare in mind is that athough the star is registered british library (or something like that) it really means nothing and it's worthwhile mentioning that no scientist is going to be calling your star the name you chose. It really is just the sentiment.
