It's about time the BBC got around to releasing genuine replicas. I've purchased both the sonic and laser screwdrivers when released, and although well made for their price, you still can't get past the fact they're made of plastic.
Then the "replica" Fob Watch was released, and it was a step too far. A plastic watch?! No thanks. But thankfully the Beeb have realised it didn't make sense, and for the true Whovians have released a fully working replica... minus the chameleon circuit I'd imagine!
Plus you get a COA signed by the 5th Master himself Mr. Derek Jacobi! Seeing this is one of a mere 1000 globally, what more do you want for what's a fairly reasonable price!
Now if you excuse me, I'm about to make myself human....
i just wanted to point out that this is not the limited to 1000 pieces that comes with derek jacobi's signiture and COA. this is the re-release for those that missed out the first time or refuse to pay a small fortune for the limited version. still worth having, but i will say shop around as it can be found a little cheaper...
As ever i was asked by several family members what i wanted for christmas and, as ever, i had nothing in mind. So one quiet morning at work i browsed these pages and found this little gem. Being a life long fan of doctor who and avid collector, i have always been selective about what i buy. These days the quality of merchandise is pretty good but it's nigh on impossible to keep up, not that i do. Back in the day there wasn't the deluge and often not very much quality either and there's always storage space to consider when you've been collecting away for thirty something years, so i always go for what i consider the 'quality' products. As the last reviewer has said, the mass produced plastic fob watch was nasty when all things are considered. Seeing this watch my eyes lit up and i thought... Present. For it's money it's one of those things that i couldn't really justify buying for myself so as a present it was ideal. I was even more surprised when i got the thing as i was expecting something of equal size to the plastic toy version. However, this item is about 2/3rds the size and more elegant in it's design. The image shows a slightly tarnished look with blacked etching, whereas mine is plain silver, although that's not a gripe, just a point of fact. I actually use mine as a timepiece as i don't wear watches so it has a practical function; i'm not one for keeping things in boxes, where's the enjoyment in that? My only criticism is that the face is very busy and you'll find a bit of squinting is required to see where the hands are so it's still more of a gimic than a serious tool to see what time it is. For the die-hards it's a must. You even get derek jacobi's squiggle! Can't be bad.
