Great buy, but farmers hate them

These really do make an occasion sparkle and if you buy the larger packs, they are pretty cheap. Problem is that they drift out for a couple of miles and land in fields, and though they say it is biodegradable, the metal frame gets left behind and it's very common for sheep and cattle to eat these and die. Also, quite fiddly to get it lit without help. Using these on special occasions only, from now on.

  pretty but

these lanterns are beautiful but please remember if you let them off out to sea, please inform the coastgard that you are going to light one ,as they can look like a distress flare from a ship in trouble. other than that enjoy them.

  Simply Beautiful

I've purchased many of these chinese lanterns, and I must say they are simply beautiful! We have set some off over the sea from Devon in memoriam of a loved one, and even though there was a slight wind, they went beautifully and right out to sea - it was a lovely moment. You certainly need two people to hold it and to set it off, and it will need a good few minutes close to the ground to get itself going. I have no complaints with this product, and would certainly reccommend for Xmas, New Year and Anniversairies!!

Least well proof-read recreational fire hazard ever.

The box boasts in big letters: fire retardent. visable for up to 20 mintues.

Spelling aside, a good product but a bit *too* thrillsome for the big city. Great fun in the sticks, or at least with a wide radius of nothing around you. They take a couple of minutes to warm up enough to gain lift and certainly need two people to do properly.

  Fun For all the Family.

Some people just need to chill out! I watched some kid drop a crisp packet earlier today, he did more littering than what all 10 of these do....

We had these at a party, Great idea, works great, Just please be careful of the small fire issue.

Open spaces is best! And calm weather, Definately not near buildings. Just read the safety precautions and everything will be just dandy =)

  Regarding the Fire Issues

| | See all 22GrandJob's reviews (7)

I bought one of these and set it free outside Glasgow in Scotland. The thing lifted really well and went really really high. With regards to people worrying about fire hazards and the eco factor, the lanterns are made from rice paper making the 100% bio degradeable. Any rain will virtually turn it into mulch, so no problems there. And as for fire risks, the paper for the fire to burn on has a limit. And since the lantern will not start lowering until the hot air cools, the lantern will have to burn itself out before returning to ground.

Excellent product for celebrating occassions

Fantastic and Frightening... all at the same time.

They are easy to set-up, in the air after 5-10 minutes of lighting, they really do look stunning, but as everyone below me has said; don't light near buildings or during high winds.

These things are extremely unpredictable once they pick up some wind, when we lit ours it travelled to the other side of town a good couple of miles.

In the end; great fun but pick your surroundings and weather conditions carefully.

  Littering

| | See all toppebster's reviews (1)

These things may look pretty, but when they fall they just add to the unsightly mess levels. If they end up in fields what are they going to do to livestock. Save money don't buy them and use the money tat is saved more usefully

These work amazingly in the UK don't listen to the other guy maybe he needs to read the instructions better. it is simple science that these should really work better in colder climates then warmer one's. As the temperature will become a lot greater within the balloon that surrounding gas allowing the balloon to rise !

These are great for celebrations or even in remembrance of the special someone. 10/10

Was using them at quite cold conditions. They are great. Just try to hold them before the whole candle is on fire and then let it go!
