Nintendo DS Lite is a lighter and brighter version of the highly successful Nintendo DS, which has sold more than 4 million units across Europe and 16 milllion units worldwide.

Nintendo's latest console includes all the existing features of the Nintendo DS, yet includes a variety of distinctive changes which truly sets it apart from other handheld consoles. Nintendo DS Lite retains the advanced touch screen technology, allowing players to control the software with a stylus or even their finger, as well as dual screens, voice recognition and Wi-Fi capabilities of the Nintendo DS but is now both smaller and lighter. Weighing nearly 60g less than the original, it is just two thirds of the original size. The redesign isn't only cosmetic though, the Nintendo DS Lite features adjustable screen brightness with four settings, a repositioned microphone for ease of use and a larger and more comfortable stylus. With its new design and unique features, this console is perfect for everyone regardless of age, gender and gaming skills.
  • Click for Video
  • It's less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter.
  • Its two bright screens can be adjusted to four levels to adapt to different lighting conditions and to extend battery power.
  • The microphone sits in the center of the unit, and the LED lights are clearly visible whether the unit is open or closed.
  • The stylus is 1 centimeter longer and 1 millimeter thicker than the stylus of the original, and slides into a side storage slot.
  • The Start and Select buttons were repositioned for easier access.
  • A removable cover keeps the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot clear from dust and debris when it's not in use.

The hand held console thats leading the market

If you don't already own a DS this is a superb buy. The DS is currently leading the console wars, its outselling all other hand held and home systems and if that isn't enough to get you interested how about this...

The DS features stereo sound, a microphone to interact with games by blowing to help start a fire (Lost in blue) or blow away clouds (Yoshi touch and go), and even speech recognition (Brain training).

The DS features unique touch screen controls which game developers are taking full use of, for example performing operations (Trauma centre) or playing sudoku! The DS also features 2 screens which can be useful for playing on one screen while viewing a map or stats on the other screen.

So you already own a DS and don't think you need a DS lite? I once had the same view, that is until I held a DS lite, its lighter, has varying backlight settings which are much brighter than the DS or PSP. This time around the DS lite also features an improved stylus which is longer and thicker.

Once you play a DS lite you'll understand why you should buy it, if you own the old DS you'll see why you should upgrade! You'll then be left with a spare DS which can be used to link up with the WI-FI connection which will enable you to play against other players. Many games now even feature a 2 player mode with only 1 cartridge while the 2nd DS will download the multiplayer option.

What else could the DS possibly need you ask? Well it also features internet access to play against player's world wide on games such as Mario Kart and Animal Crossing. There are also download points in various shops where demos can be downloaded to test a game before you actually buy it, or even downloading new packages for your current games! Picross allows owners to download new puzzles to extend the games life.

Finally the future for the DS is also looking pretty good, with connection options to the Wii, the possibilities will be endless!

We own the original silver DS, and to be honest, it looks like a rushed release next to this.

The LCD screens are far brighter than the original. It is easier to hold as the case is smaller and easier to grip.. The stylus too is bigger and the oringinal Gameboy Advance Game block has a cover for when it isn't being used.

Sound quality is great and the buttons more accesible.

As a games console this again is what it should be. Hand held games should be readily accesible, not have life consuming games and be fun. Something you pick up from time to time or your kids play on the hour or 2 drive for a weekend away. Or when your watching something on TV your kids don't really want to watch.

The DS lite is certainly that. Games are fantastic, addictive, colourful and fun. Oh and the rechargable lithium battery that's bulit in is great too so you'll not spend loads of money on batteries

DS stands for Dual Screen, and the DS games all use this feature, but most you can avoid if you wish to not using the stylus for the whole game. Only the bottom screen is the touch screen.

Want some fun gaming for on the move then this is your man

i got the original DS the day it came out sadly my DS just broke (batterypack) and the whole thing was in bad condition anyway and since original dont sell no more i needed to buy this, its much better more comfy and more durable but just like what nintendo does with portables, sell release date for about 200quid then bout 6months later make a better 1 at half the price which is very frustrating which is why i give it a 4 souly because i hate nintendo portables becase of this

The best portable console yet with great fun games.

For all those people who can't buy the DS for Christmas please wait as the games are very good and make good use of the DS capabilities. The build quality is solid and the DS is just the right size to fit in your hands. I have five excellent games for My DS which are as follows:

1. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
2. New Super Mario Bros
3. Mario Kart DS
4. Metroid Prime: Hunters
5. Super Mario 64 DS

My mum wants to get herself a DS and to play the Brain Training games there are games for people of all age groups to enjoy. I'm 30 and My mum is 60 what a great enjoyable machine the DS is. There are two more games I like the look of which are Advance Wars Dual Strike and Planet Puzzle League. The DS is more then worth the wait buy it you won't regret it
