Learn Chinese using carefully structured lessons that guide the player through vocabulary and calligraphy exercises. Learn the basic pronunciations unique to the Mandarin language. Use the Nintendo DS stylus to properly write Chinese Kanji Characters. Play through a series of fun and informative minigames that reinforces the lesson content for the player.

Explore China as each point of interest opens up your vocabulary:

  • Lesson plans take place within interesting locations ranging from Beijing to the countryside
  • Useful information for first-time Mandarin speakers planning to visit the country
  • The world map is identical to the Chinese map and the locations of the country
  • Learn to pronounce sounds unique to Chinese by comparing your voice to a native speaker:

    • Voice recording and playback feature of the DS allows the player to compare his or her accent to a native Mandarin speaker
    • Ability to listen and compare phrases not just words

Develop your calligraphy skills as you trace over animations showing the proper way to write in Chinese:

    • Write Chinese characters using the DS stylus and touch-screen
    • Stroke order and comparison ability allows players to properly write difficult Kanji words

Participate in mini-games that will test your grasp of the structured lessons featured in the game:

    • 12 minigames reinforce lesson plans and the ability to write in Chinese
    • Variety of minigames ranging from whack-a-mole, word search, bridge builder, and Kanji writing

Use the built in reference tool to look up useful words and phrases:

    • Chinese Dictionary and phrasebook with over 12,000 Mandarin words and hundreds of useful phrases
    • Strong reference points and serves as an independent tool from the game that's very practical and useful

     Beats a book and tape

I've had this game for 3 days now and so far I'm very impressed.
The game allows you have up to 3 people learning independently so it can be shared which is very good. Just create your profile and off you go.
The first lessons cover the basics: greetings and what have you and the game allows you to compare your pronounciation with that of the guide. You record your own pronounciation and can then replay it over that the guide's.
The mini games(only 2 so far) feel repetitive however they are designed to make you remember the lesson and that works pretty well.
So far, I would recommend this over a book and tape any day. Its fun, friendly and you can really learn something in just 15mins each day.

     Impressive

After a few hours off learning Chinese i have learnt a few words already and i have never learnt Chinese before, im impressed with the layout. I like the mini tests it gives you, i personally think this is the best way to start off with these language games for ds any off them as i have them all as one reviewer said it beats any tape or cd as you can compare you against the coach. all in all im happy with this.

     So Far So Good!

I liked the assessment at the start to see which level to start on, I started on Level 4. The lessons were good and simple to use. The games made you think and were very enjoyable. The Chinese Characters were a bit small and the write option is a bit quick but the layout is clear and easy to use. Will let you know more when I move up a few levels.
