Nintendo DS Lite is a lighter and brighter version of the highly successful Nintendo DS, which has sold more than 4 million units across Europe and 16 milllion units worldwide.

Nintendo's latest console includes all the existing features of the Nintendo DS, yet includes a variety of distinctive changes which truly sets it apart from other handheld consoles. Nintendo DS Lite retains the advanced touch screen technology, allowing players to control the software with a stylus or even their finger, as well as dual screens, voice recognition and Wi-Fi capabilities of the Nintendo DS but is now both smaller and lighter. Weighing nearly 60g less than the original, it is just two thirds of the original size. The redesign isn't only cosmetic though, the Nintendo DS Lite features adjustable screen brightness with four settings, a repositioned microphone for ease of use and a larger and more comfortable stylus. With its new design and unique features, this console is perfect for everyone regardless of age, gender and gaming skills.
  • Click for Video
  • It's less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter.
  • Its two bright screens can be adjusted to four levels to adapt to different lighting conditions and to extend battery power.
  • The microphone sits in the center of the unit, and the LED lights are clearly visible whether the unit is open or closed.
  • The stylus is 1 centimeter longer and 1 millimeter thicker than the stylus of the original, and slides into a side storage slot.
  • The Start and Select buttons were repositioned for easier access.
  • A removable cover keeps the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot clear from dust and debris when it's not in use.

The hand held console thats leading the market

If you don't already own a DS this is a superb buy. The DS is currently leading the console wars, its outselling all other hand held and home systems and if that isn't enough to get you interested how about this...

The DS features stereo sound, a microphone to interact with games by blowing to help start a fire (Lost in blue) or blow away clouds (Yoshi touch and go), and even speech recognition (Brain training).

The DS features unique touch screen controls which game developers are taking full use of, for example performing operations (Trauma centre) or playing sudoku! The DS also features 2 screens which can be useful for playing on one screen while viewing a map or stats on the other screen.

So you already own a DS and don't think you need a DS lite? I once had the same view, that is until I held a DS lite, its lighter, has varying backlight settings which are much brighter than the DS or PSP. This time around the DS lite also features an improved stylus which is longer and thicker.

Once you play a DS lite you'll understand why you should buy it, if you own the old DS you'll see why you should upgrade! You'll then be left with a spare DS which can be used to link up with the WI-FI connection which will enable you to play against other players. Many games now even feature a 2 player mode with only 1 cartridge while the 2nd DS will download the multiplayer option.

What else could the DS possibly need you ask? Well it also features internet access to play against player's world wide on games such as Mario Kart and Animal Crossing. There are also download points in various shops where demos can be downloaded to test a game before you actually buy it, or even downloading new packages for your current games! Picross allows owners to download new puzzles to extend the games life.

Finally the future for the DS is also looking pretty good, with connection options to the Wii, the possibilities will be endless!

Colour difference:
This DS looks awsome! I probally would have gone for a pink one had they been released at the time, however only black and white were available.

This is one for the wife!

Nifty's said pretty much all that needs to be said about this badboy but there's a couple things I'd like to add:

The DS is wonderful, we know that but is there anything less-than-wonderful about it?
Oh yes! For the best part the touch screen and stylus method of playing games is brilliant and works like a charm but there are plenty of bigname exceptions where I think only the most blinkered zealot would fail to find fault.
The better games for the DS such as Mario Kart and New Super Mario Bros do not rely on the stylus and are infact very traditionally played games (with the joypad). The simple games like those found in Wario Ware Touched work beautifully and for the best part totally rely on the stylus but then there are games like Metroid and Mario 64 where you'd have to be a real Nintendo Fanboy of the highest calibre to believe that you were not engaging in a SEVERELY impaired experience because using the stylus in place of an analogue stick is frustratingly awkward and not much fun.

If you get one then make sure you buy Mario Kart, New Super Mario Brothers and also Wario Ware Touched so you have some super stylus fun! That should keep you going until Zelda makes an appearance.

 Brilliant!

At last a console which is fun and easy to use...and available in a variety of colours! I bought the pink console in May '08 and have loved it. There's so many games available - for both males and females! It was very easy to set up...put it on charge for around 4hours (until the light went green) and began! Showing how even young children could do it themselves. As the screen closes theres no need to worry about scratching it in a bag etc (unlike the psp) and at a very reasonable price. All in all its a super piece of gaming technology, for both adults and children. So enjoy!

 Great!

I got my parents to buy me a DS for Christmas of 2005. A few weeks ago, I went out and bought a DS Lite! And what difference it makes.

In one of my games, when I played it on my Original DS, I thought the words were black.

On my DS Lite, I've realised the words are actually GREEN!

It's an amazing improvement, and I thoroughly suggest you get one.

P.S. A PSP in itself costs £129.99, the games cost £29.99, the memory sticks cost £19.99. A DS Lite and game costs just £129.99!

My mum is 60 and loves her pink DS! The DS is for everyone!

Last year the DS sold out before Christmas and the same will happen this year. So if you are going to buy a DS for someone this Christmas then my advise is to buy one now befor they sell out and become very hard to get hold off. The DS is easy to use and very robust. There are a wide selection of games to choose from which appeal to all different people and ages. My mum has Brain Training and 42 All-Time Classics which she loves playing so much her DS is on holiday with her! Nintendo are geniuses in breaking the video game market to just about everybody. If you don't have a DS then you are missing out big time my friends!
