Nintendo DSi XL Console - Wine Red

a DS (which doesnt fit in your pocket anyway) but bigger and with a camera and internet, Awesome! Plus you can download (for free) flipnote, which lets you create flipnote style cartoons, Brilliant piece of software!

I used to own a DS Lite. I traded it in for a PSP but craved the unique touch screen of the DS again.
I saw that there was a DSi but noticed that an XL version would be released in the near future.
One near future later and i have my DSi XL and love it.
I think it's a decent purchase for anyone who hasn't owned a DS before or for people who have previously owned an original DS or DS Lite. However i don't think that it's worth upgrading if you currently own a DSi.
The main difference is that the console is blatantly bigger..Appart from that and a huge pen i don't think it's worth investing in unless a bigger screen really means that much to you.
Personally i think the bigger console/screen/pen is a work of genius. Most handhelds get boring because of the small screen and you ache after a while. The XL ensures better gameplay for everyone. Text is bigger and easier to read and the pictures despite being a lil pixelated at times, can also benefit and look more impressive.
I think the only downside to this console is that it weighs a lot more than it's predecessors. Like noticeably more. I think that despite the gameplay being bigger and better you still really only get the same use as any other handheld because of it's noticeably heavier shape.
But apart from that tiny niggle i think the XL is an amazingly creative and unique console.

I love it!! the screens are much better, i had the DSi before which i loved (have now given it to my husband!) and got this as i wanted bigger screens and i love the wine red colour too.
The software on it is good and the pen stylus is much more comfortable.

got this for the bigger screen, (not the extras) previously had a DS lite, which i found things were a bit small for me, like text and cards on games like solitaire

had trouble getting it going, wouldn't respond to stylus, so had to do re-start, see page 81 of book, after that no problem

can't comment on camera etc, as prob won't use it

does have two games installed, brain training ones

it has a slightly longer stylus, but also comes with a pen stylus, which i find much better, shame it only comes in two (dark) colours

as for the glossy finish to the top of the XL, (it's great for collecting finger smudges)would rather it was matt finish, but just a personal preference

I am so glad i waited to trade my ds lite in for this great beauty! Big screen, camera, internet access (which i am having a little problem with at the moment) but i am sure reading the instructions again will help, what more could you ask for! great product and price from play.com A+
