The aqua blue model, which is due to be discontinued, is probably the best handheld console that Nintendo has produced. The build quality is very good, but the only 2 things I'd change is the button to turn on wireless internet connection is a bit dodgy, plus the padded buttons at the bottom of the bottom screen are prone to wear. Mario Kart and Mario 3D are ace games, Luigi's Mansion 2 and New Super Mario Bros. 2 will also be ace games. If Nintendo releases Wave Race 64, the 3DS will be set in stone as Nintendo's best ever handheld.

The 3ds is a great handheld, i have a few games and the 3d effect on street fighter looks good it makes the visuals have a real depth to them. You can adjust the 3d effect with a switch on the side of 3ds. there are also downloads available online of classics like the original zelda, game and watch which you can purchase store alongside your photos and music on a sdhc card that fits into slot on side of 3ds. Ive took a few photos with the 3ds and when viewed on its screen looks cool. Another plus to the handheld is that its backwards compatible with ds games. the design of console is compact and a definite improvement on original ds. The graphics are impressive from playing zelda, resident evil mercenaries and street fighter. Nintendo have again designed an innovative and great console for gaming fans. Only gripe i have with the handheld is that the 3d effect on some games doesnt work as well as others. Games i would reccomend are pilotwings resort, Shinobi 3ds (excellent game),streetfighter and resident evil mercenaries. Would definately reccomend to anyone looking for a quality handheld

Mario Kart 7 was the game that made my family want a 3DS!

My six year old daughter, my partner and myself all have the original ds console one each and we also have the Nintendo Wii of which we have many games for between us on both systems. We are all big fans of the Mario Kart games and Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS is just as excellent as the other Mario Kart games but I must say we all find playing the game in 3d hurts our eyes after a while and thats one of the reasons why I'm only giving the 3DS Console 4 stars out of 5. The 3d effect is brilliant and it's a real shame that it strains my eyes after about 15 mins of play because after all this is one of the biggest selling points of having a 3DS hand held console. If you switch the 3d off then playing Mario Kart 7 the graphics are pretty much the same level as a Wii at the moment which good but the PlayStation Vita will have graphics that nearly match the power of the PS3! I've always said graphics don't make great games that it's the gameplay which really makes games fun to play. This will not bother me but I know some people like to have the console with the best graphics around so I thought I would point this out.
The battery life for the 3ds last about six hours max which is bad when compared to the ds lite which last up to around double the time maybe more. This is another reason for me not giving the 3ds a perfect score out of five overall.
There is free software which comes with the 3ds such as Mii Maker that uses the 3ds camera when making your Mii. I found by taking a photograph of myself that the likeness of my Mii looks even more like me then before on the Wii!
The Face Raiders is a really funny shooting game where you look around your room with the 3ds camera and shoot the flying objects which have your face on them.
If you are able to set your 3ds to the internet then, at the moment you can download Zelda: Four Swords for free in Nintendo eShop because it's the 25th Anniversary of this epic series of games.
AR Games: Augmented Reality is another fun piece of free software where you get to use your six AR Cards. First of all you use the card with the question mark on it which you lay down and take photogarphs of it from all angles. Then you get to play another strange shooting game which has some rather cool effects. The five other cards are Toon Link, Mario, Kirby, Pikmin and Samus of which I have photographed all of them running around on my cat! There is a lot more to this game which I have yet to explore.
I must say the Aqua Blue 3ds is a lovely colour and the metallic finish is super. As with all Nintendo products the build quality is solid and you feel safe knowing it will last a long time.
The only other 3DS game we have at the moment is Ridge Racer 3D which is a very good arcade style racer and don't forget that all your normal ds games can also be played on the 3ds too.

  An Amazing Handheld

| | See all GreenLuigi's reviews (1)

Ive had my 3DS since lauch and have just decided to write a review. It is a great handheld with many features, one of the best ones obviously being the 3D effect.
I think that now would be the perfect time to get one as the proper Mario games are coming out really soon.

Wow. What a great console in a great colour!!!!

I pre ordered this almost as soon as i could. especially in such a great colour. Black was boring and i already owned a DS Lite and the difference in graphics is unbelievable. There is o much more to do and with the eshop now so much more to play.

  This is more like it

I'm not a massive nintendo fan - I think they seem to cater more for younger gamers and lets be honest, the games are usually graphically unimpressive, and those were the reasons why I dithered so long before deciding to take the plunge and buy one - and then when Ocarina of Time came out I knew I had to buy it, and I'm glad I did. I didn't think the 3d would be as good as they advertise but it really is - once you've tweaked the screen to your own eyes it works very well. The console itself is well made and overall is a massive improvement over the DS. The camera however is pretty naff - picture quality is akin to something you'd get on a really old mobile phone - disappointing. But that's really my only gripe - the rest is all good. If (like me) you were looking to upgrade your old DS, then I really recommend this - especially for Ocarina of Time (which looks and plays brilliantly btw) Buy it now - you know you want to...

  Good but not actually finished!!!

Graphics = 5 stars (when playing a decent game) the graphics are good, but this depends greatky on which game you play. Best graphics are currently on splinter cell, street fighter is in the middle and ghost recon is shockingly bad.

Sound = 4 stars - it does have good quality sound and is not as tinny as its predecessors but it is very quiet.

Inbuilt software = 4 stars - the software that is on the 3ds is good. there is a camera that takes 3d pictures, a mini game using the camera creates 3d games from placing a card in front of the camera, and a game that captures peoples faces and puts them onto the enemies of in the game.

Upside - sturdy little machine, you can feel the quality it no longer feels as if its going to snap (like the ds lite) big screen, inner and outer cameras. 3d mode is very good for a handheld. the new charging system is a lot better where you have a power tray and just put the ds on it and lift it of when charged no more playing about with cables as you can give it a permanant place.

Downside - The 3ds is only half up and running currently, there are software glitches and it does freeze. The 3d camera can be quite difficult to set up as it needs natural light and a clear view of somewhere that is 20 metres away, so it can be a challenge. The 3d mode while good seems to wash out the colours and the brightness of the screen - so yes it is 3d but the colour intensity drops hugely. I have found that when playing the mini games moving the ds around can be difficult also as the screen is heavier and they still have not sorted out the hinge! when you move the ds around or put it down with a tad too much vigour the screen bends at this awkward angle and you can hear the plastic squeek so do take care. Finally the stylus has been moved and is now in the most awkward place possible (at the rear towards the left under the screen when the ds is open).

Lastly - I do love the 3ds but at present it is not complete! the nintendo store is not up and running so you cannot access that or see any games, demos etc so that is a minus.
The internet browser does not work either, it makes this big hooha about setting up the wifi when you first turn it on for it to say that it will not work without an update (which is not out until late may / early june).

ps if you wait it will probs be cheaper by then and also all the software will available! tbh i do feel a bit conned by this and wish that i had waited

More of a gimmick then console

| | See all jkdarlow's reviews (1)

honestly i was excited about it when it was announced, but i found the 3d to be poor, the aqua blue one look horrible with the top half being black, the power button is terribly placed and there is little reason for a wifi switch on the side, personally i would wait for a large price reduction and some time for some actual 'good' games to come out rather than things like nintendogs and ports of already released games.

  game changer.

| | See all Cheekyone82's reviews (5)

like many of the reviewers state below - this is a complete game changer. If you've read any criticisms just ignore them, this thing is unbelievable. and though the graphics are on par with say the PS2, games like Pro Evo Soccer look and feel more real than the most recent football games on the Xbox 360 due to the 3D depth. This system was badly needed to show people that 3D is here to stay this time - and those voices you can hear are the heads of MS and Sony screaming to get those 3D console games and 3D Blu-ray movies on the shelves, NOW!
