Iv never really been a fan of the Rayman series. Sure I played nearly all of them, but not long enough to truly enjoy. The only one I Completed was the Original DS version. Which in itself was a remake of Rayman 2 from the N64. This 3D Iteration however, is also a remake. But unlike its DS brethrin before it, it is a remake of the Dreamcast Original.
Statistically, the Dreamcast Original was the best Selling Rayman game to date. No wonder why its being Remade. Buttt. Is it any good?? In a word. YES!
Not only does it look good for a handheld, it boasts some absolutely Fantastic 3D effects. This feature breathes new life into the game that not only will it attract the likes of a one time rayman completionist, but also newcomers. Purely because it has sublime 3D Imagery. The game also plays as you would expect, and sounds the part..
There are 2 minor gripes with this however. First being the Lack of Touch screen specific Content. It was absent from the First DS installment, so it would make sense to fix this. I guess the developer got lazy with anything other than the 3D aspect of its release. Secondly is the Frame rate. Being that the game is on a flash cart, and the Technical reach of the Console has clearly not been reached, it suprises me that it runs less than 30FPS. There are numerous obvious Frame rate dips that can be a pain. Not to a point thats it unplayable, but to a perfectionist. Its very VERY annoying!
Aside from those minor setbacks, it is a great game. Very nice to look at, plays beautifully and has by far the best 3D effects I have ever seen on this device. Even the damn Pause menu is dazzling :).
I hope this helped with your purchase
