  Basic but very poor

| | See all Bwfccardiff's reviews (2)

I couldnt wait for this game to come out on the ds as i love all the football manager games on the pc. I did buy this the day it came out and after a week i took it back. Yes it is simple to control and play. But i was forever in debt on the game unable to buy anyone and when i did buy someone they vanished off the game. I bought kompany i went to put him in first team just vanished not even at his old club just gone. It did this a couple more times as well when i bought players and it also didnt matter who i played in my team i would always win even with terrible players it wasnt challenging to win anything. I also qualified for europe won all my group stage games and then after the last group game i had a message saying sorry you were knocked out in group stage of european cup.
Yes easy to use but too many glitches in this game very poor overall and im not even mentioning the transfers very out of date at the time it came out.

Basic, but for a DS game - Quite in depth.

After playing this solidly since I got it, for approximately 3-4 hours. This game is quite simple. All the basics, transfers without additional clauses. No football manager put it that way. But for the price and for the DS. What more could you expect.

The stats are based on 08/09 season, I'm sure if not the season before. Tweak your tactics ever so slightly. Only thing that took away a star was the possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo signing for Coventry City. The signings weren't very realistic, but good for a bit of fun.

  Keep your money!

Not even worth a tenner. It has way too many faults. It is so frustrating especially when you constantly lose money and your players leave on a free transfer even though you have just signed them up for 4 years! I have played it a good few times and every time it annoys!

  Fantatsic !

I got this game for christmas and i think it's great ! A lot of people have said you find yourself constantly loosing money, but if you sell your good players you will start to gain money. Also the fact that you can sign 3 players for nothing (of around a 60-75 rating) is good. I've eboue, matt derbyshire, brian mcbride, y. Safiri, e, mpenza (maybe) and maybe a few more for nothing. Also i like the fact that the games goes quickly is good because you won't get bored after a while.

A definate must have if you want a fun, ongoing and tactical game this is the one for you !

Sets the standard for others to follow... hopefully

Good game, but several little things that spoil it.
As other people have said, it gets annoying only being able to buy and sell players from the english leagues, and the fact that many of the player rosters are out of date... robbie keane still at tottenham etc... this, as well as the fact that if you get sacked it is just game over, and you cant change clubs, mean that seasons go very quickly. They sometimes take 30 minutes or so, compared to hours on football manager games for the pc.
Overall the game is okay, seen as how times when you are playing your ds eg: train, bus etc, you wont really be all that bothered about whether certain players play for the wrong teams, or your formation isnt quite perfect. Its just a fun game to pick up and play!

  OK but.....

I do agree with the other comments here. The game itself is quite good and results are pretty realistic. The flaws however are odd. I too loaned players but they didnt return to their clubs after the loan period ended? I also found losing money every week no matter what I did. Thirdly players skill levels seem to fluctuate ridiculously. One week my 17 yo striker had skill of 35, within a fortnight he shot up to 86 and his shooting was 99? G.Elito I think his name was. An addictive game that could and should be much better !!

  Worth It, As Expected

It does exactly what it says on the tin. As it does not hold full rights you cannot complain about player names on teams. Holds some faults, but what game doesnt? A more worthwhile buy that football manager 08 r fifa manager 08 on p.c .

I would recommend this for any football lover, it is a low maintenance management game on a console perfect for football management games.

Given a 4 for the bugs that have been left in the game, but it is still playable and fun! Recommended buy!
p.s I believe that anyone 'bashing' this game, or giving it lower scores, are comparing to those available on larger and more powerful platforms (a p.c). I say it is a job well done.

Decent effort, but plenty of faults

I'll begin with the good bits about the game. The layout of the game is nice and simple (With tutorials to help out if you required them), and the control system is VERY easy to get used to due to the DS's touch screen. The live commentary is a neat touch as well, a little similar to the Football Manager games.

However, this is let down by quite a few things:

1. A VERY out of date roster. My team, Cardiff City, still had Matt Green (Sold), Robbie Fowler (Free to Blackburn), Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (Released and retired), Steve Thompson (Free to Burnley), Michael Oakes (Released) and Glenn Loovens (Sold to Celtic), maybe one or two others, and yet had no Comminges (Our first signing of the summer), Heaton, Bothroyd and E. Johnson. Had McCormack though, which makes it more strange.

2. Loans are very messed up. I loaned Kalou (Don't ask how) for an initial 11 weeks (Max it'll allow). I looked at his contract, had him till 2010. Very strange. Same went with Vela and Baines (Again, don't ask how).

3. Some players drop drastically in rating for no apparent reason. I had Vela playing (And scoring) a lot, he was rated in the high 60's/low 70's. After one random game, his rating dropped below 50!!! He wasn't suspended or injured.

4. It's unrealistic. As well as the Kalou and Baines loans, I got promoted as Cardiff to the Premiership, and looked at players out of contract. I was able to get Petr Cech, Steven Gerrard, Wes Brown, Xabi Alonso, Nicolas Anelka and Dimitar Berbatov all to me. This obviously put me in real money problems, which is also confusing. Surely I should be sacked if I'm £30m in debt???

5. Lack of content. What you see in terms of players and teams is what you get. You can only manage in the english league, and buy players only in the english league (So if you're a prem team, your pool of players good enough for your club is very low). I know this might be due to DS limitations, but surely 1 or 2 more top leagues wouldn't have gone amiss.

If you can find this on the cheap, I'd consider giving it a shot just because it's a simple on the go game. Other than that, I wouldn't recommend it.

Agreed. Have been waiting for ages for a management game for the ds, then one comes out in november and it doesn't even include the transfers that happened in june! What the hell? Game is ok but the fact that the teams are not updated has really spoilt the whole thing. No need to remind us that keane is no longer at spurs :'(

First DS manager game...and it shows

Just hope that more come out and learn from this, the ds is an ideal format for this type of game, just dont understand why more have not come out! Come on guys at the football manager team, bring it out on the ds please!!
