OK, but not as good as the original

The best thing about Bubble Bobble Revolution the ability to play the old classic bubble bobble, which still remains as playable today as ever. Although small (it only appears on one screen) this doesn't take anything away from its playability. It is worth buying the game just for that.

The updated version however doesn't really work on the DS. The level design just isn't anywhere near as good as the original game, some levels have spikes hanging down which is hard to see and if you jump up to move to a higher level you wil instantly loose some health. Even the monsters don't behave as they should, for example if you jump onto the same platform they are on they will jump onto the next, plus they move too quickly which can make play frustrating as you can't get any sort of tactic going.

One other feature which is a mystery is the absence of a time limit to complete the level. There is no deathly character chasing you when you are taking too long, all that happens is the enemy moves a little quicker.

The game scrolls with your character rather than being able to see the whole of the level at once, this makes play a bit chaotic as you also can't see what is coming, again making tactics more difficult. In saying that however the game is fairly easy to complete as you can return to the last level you were on before.

The game may have looked better if it was made smaller and fitted the screens better, like on Bomberman DS (great game, read my review), which still managed to take advantage of both screens.

Also, as this was an earlier DS game, if you are wanting to play with friends they also have to have a copy of the game.

Although not the worst game I've played on the DS, none the less as a fan of Bubble Bobble it is disappointing. Stick to the classic version (I'd give that 5 stars)
