The Nintendo DSi will be available in black or white and is the thinnest and lightest member of the Nintendo DS family. The console is packed with new features that will excite fans of and newcomers to the Nintendo DS range. There are many ways to have fun with the Nintendo DSi, from creating, customising and sharing photos with friends and family or listening to and experimenting with your favourite music, to playing more than 1000 Nintendo DS games and downloading new DSiWare games directly onto your console. The Nintendo DSi also features built-in internet capabilities, meaning the fun begins the moment you switch it on!

The Nintendo DSi incorporates two cameras adding an entirely new dimension to gameplay on the Nintendo DSi. The cameras are able to accurately detect facial features and players' movements. Moving the upper body, hands, arms and head in front of the camera now means play can be directed by movement alone, bringing a whole new way of interacting with the handheld.

The Nintendo DSi has enhanced volume and sound quality so that users can experience the Nintendo DSi Sound application, as well as in-game music, at its best. As well as bringing portable music to the Nintendo DSi (as players will be able to play AAC-encoded music files on their console), Nintendo DSi Sound introduces new ways for Nintendo DSi users to experiment and play with sound and music - changing the pitch, speed and even apply effects to sound files that are played on the console.

You can customise your Nintendo DSi by downloading games and applications from the DSi Shop, in addition to being able to carry around your Nintendo DSi with your very own unique photos and music files. A variety of fun software will be available for download in the forthcoming months.

 High Expectations, Disappointing Product

Not much has improved compared to the DS Lite the DSi has larger screens and improved sound but that's all. One noticeable thing was the overall build quality compared to the DS Lite and DS, the D Pad (sometime catches), Casing (has varied gaps), L-R Buttons (are tiny) etc, well it seemed you needed to take extra special care in case something broke off!
The extra features are basically a novelty and are very limited, so you will hardly ever use them...but on the upside you can downloaded the DSi Web Browser for free, which is ok to surf basic websites and for checking emails but that's all.
Another new feature is the shop channel DSi Ware, like WiiWare for the Wii but it seems yet again they are scraping the "bottom of the barrel" to release games for what I see as too highly priced for such low quality games...not the kind of thing you usually see on a Nintendo console but hopefully it will improve over time maybe a GBA Virtual Console??
So if you are new to Nintendo scene or are planning to upgrade your DS Lite to a DSi at some point, I would recommend buying or staying with the DS Lite unless you are impressed with the new 2 second fun features.

First Looks at the new DSi

when i first got this new DSi i though it would be good but, there are things which i was not happy about thing such as the camra it is not as good as you think it is, and when you use it as a camra it does not came out as good as you migh think.
One of the good points about this new one is that i had a card slot which is used for putting music and picture and even games which you can download from your pc or from the DS shop which is also a nice thing about it. So over all i think that it is a good console but w8 till it goes down in price a little bite more.
Thanks for reading

Firstly, i must point out that i borrowed my friends dsi because i have a lite. After a few hours play, i couldn't see what all the fuss is about. Here are a few reasons why i did not like the dsi...

The cameras are poor and the photos can't be printed, which is the whole idea of a camera. What happens when you've got a full memory? The colour changer and stretching faces is fun, but not for long, and is simular to photoshop and facewarp on most mobile phones. Infact, cameras on mobiles are better than what's on offer here.
The music players rubbish too- what uses acc files? Most use mp3/wav files which means spending ages converting files. The speeding up/slowing down of a song becomes boring quickly.
The browser's slow and websites like youtube are out of the question as the dsi can't handle it. The screens may be bigger but the quality's just the same. This also applies to the sound- no difference.
All dsi's and dsi games are region locked, which means paying though the nose for a dsi in the uk and no imports. It is thanks to imports that we have games like phoenix wright and elite beat agents. It also means waiting an extra few months while our american cousins brag about the latest game we can't have for months.
Nintendo talk of dsi games, but where are they? Surely When you release a console, you release games for it- why offer ds games with a dsi console?!

I'm a nintendo girl through and through, and i really wanted this to wow me. I have 30 ds games and love them all. However, my loyalty took a blow with this. Within 2 hours of playing this, i switched it off and we both went back to our ds lites. Infact, it claims you can hotswap cartridges, so why everytime we did this (we followed the instructions in the booklet) it froze? My friend is selling her dsi because she thought it would be an improvement. Luckily, she knows someone else who is going to buy it off her for the same amount she gave to buy it. I feel it is a rip off to charge £50 for two poor cameras, a music player which only playes music files no music device uses, a really bad web browser and a console which has no specific games for it. If they wre so desperate to have a camera, why not have a gba plug in? I, like many will be sticking to the ds lite, and feel it will be a sad day when the ds lite can no longer be used.

 Better than expected

OK, so as the other reviewer's wrote, I'm sure the special effects will be novel for a short time, but my young kids love playing with mine and laughed for far too long with the sound effects and keep pestering to play with it again.
I bought the first version DS and it's nice to have this one as it's far more streamline and lighter.
My only complaint, my old DS plays the Advanced/Color games and this DSi doesn't and as a collector of the old games, it cuts my gaming in half. If they had still had that facility, I would have given 5 stars.

 One of the best gadget

Top 100 PC Reviewer

Hi, this is one of the best gadget around, but that is my opinion i will let u make up ur own mind with these points i have put together.

GOOD
€The dsi ware shop-Buy games with points from a card or bought with a visa card on the dsi using the internet. At the moment (when i wrote this review) there are only about 8 game in the Uk store, but in the future many more games are expected which utilizes the cameras.

Bigger screens-The screens are slightly bigger than those on the ds lite but slightly smaller than those on the original ds.

The cameras-Not only are they going to be amazing in new games expected to come out soon, but there are lots of affects u can play with built in to distort faces ect, the cameras that high quality but for games and fun tweaking they are fine.

Better Processor- sorry i cant be more helpful but i am aware the the processor is better shortening loading times ect.

Music-You can record your self and play with it in the music section or just play around with music you already have. You can play music but it does not play mp3 file music :(,

Better interface-The start up menu now contains lots of empty slots which u put games and apps in u get from the dsi ware store, much like on the wii. The interface overall looks nicer as well. You can move which apps u like better to the front e.g if you really liked the camera app u could put at the front so when u turn the console on it is on that app.

The memory card slot-You can now take photos and music with on a sd card as the gba slot has been replaced with a sd slot.

Internet browser-The browser does not come with the dsi but u can get it 4 free from the dsi ware store. It work fairly well with nice ds unique features it would be to complicated to try and explain so if u r interested look it up.

BAD€No gba slot-Yep for those of you who like their game-boy games there is no longer a gba slot. This also means that ds games that use the gba slot such as guitar hero are not compatible.

R4 not compatible-for those of u who used to use an R4 to get their games u will not be able to use them anymore.

Battery life shorter-The battery life is better on the ds lite than on this.

Much more expensive-At the moment the console is £50 more than the ds lite u r paying a lot of money. I see it as investment, at the movement £50 for a camera and a set of 8 games seems a lot, but in less than a year the shop will be full of games using the camera and music facilities. But if u r new on the gaming and tech scene i wud buy a ds lite as it would be cheaper and better, as all the main games r the same 4 all three ds's.

New accessories- Some people might look on the longer console and the bigger stylus as a good thing but it is highly probable that this has been done to make you buy dsi cases and dsi stylus instead of just normal ds accessories.

NEUTRAL€
New look and no logo-The finish is now a rough plastic instead of the sleek look. In my opinion the smooth finnish is nicer but that is me. one good advantage of the rough finnish is that it prevent scratch and finger marks easier. There is no longer the ds logo on the front making it look slightly plane.

Slightly longer-The console is a little bit longer than the ds lite.

Button moves-The on button has been moved from the left side of the console to the top next to the touch screen. The volume button is now on the side instead of the bottom. The bumper buttons are also flatter, 4 those who use a playstation a good example would be saying the ds lite bumper buttons are like the r2 button and the dsi bumper buttons are like the R1 button.

Thanks for reading i hope that this review has helped decide to make the right choice for u.
