We bought Lego Battles on the DS for our 7 year old son. He liked lego batman and indiana jones so we thought this was a safe bet.
It turned out completely different from those lego games - even better.
Of all the games he has got on the ds and wii he says this is the best game he has ever played!!! So good we struggle to get him off it.
It is a large game with many levels and characters. Full of strategy and gets the brain working. I can honestly say for our son this game has helped him with his reading too.
He would love it if Lego Battles 2 was made so if anybody knows if this is in the pipeline please add a comment on here. I have also heard that Lego Bionicle Heroes is a similar type of game so may give that a try.
Definetly recommended if you love armies, battles, etc.

 Best DS game yet!

I bought this for my 5 and 6 years olds, ignoring the 7+ recommendation. They've liked previous lego games so i thought they'd be fine. This was completely different - think command and conquer for kids on the ds! And as only kids can do they picked it up really quickly. There are a number of different options - either you follow the stories and complete levels, or you can 'free play' taking on the 'computer' or another ds when linked up. There a number of different character levels - pirates, space-themed etc - all of which my kids seem fascinated by. Each one has a key 'king' character who can do magic or spells and make things a bit more interesting. I think I've probably given away that myself and my husband, who have never been taken by ds games before, have been hooked on this one! Such good fun passing itbetween parents and kids when they're in the middle of a battle needing help!
As it has a free play option I think this is a never-ending game - which is why I've given it 5 stars. If you're just after a quick race around game this is not the one, each battle takes 10-20 minutes...but 10-20 of fun and strategy....

Well what can i say, after the last lego games on the ds i was really looking forward to this, then i put it on and was very dissapointed. Instead of following in indiana jones and batman's footsteps they went back to the old pc lego game style, i mean it is ok but it doesnt show anything of what the ds can do - it can have you hooked but compare it to the last few lego games and it really fails.

the best game on ds easily

I bought this for my 9 yr old son and he really enjoyed. He did complete it quite quickly, although 5 months later it is still being played. My 6yr old son now also wants a copy having borrowed it as he really enjoys it. They then want to take advantage of the multi card multiplayer option. I agree the graphics aren't as impressive as some games that are out there but it doesn't need to be. The cut scene videos are very good and very funny. I think this is a good game to start with for strategy games for children as there aren't that many of them and some of the more adult ones are to complex, like age of empires and kingdom under fire. Don't compare to other lego games e.g batman, star wars - it is a completely different game.
