Ikaruga is a comprehensive, scrolling space shooter (with options for either a vertical or horizontal display) set in 2D, against a rich 3D backdrop. The game is an ideal combination of rich Japanese storytelling and high-powered, fighter pilot heroics. Players take the role of our hero, Shinra, the lone survivor of a freedom federation that was massacred by the evil, power-hungry conqueror Tenro Horai. Now Shinra, in his newly-built ship, the Ikaruga, must fight for an aging, exiled people who are depending upon him for their survival. Join the sole warrior as he battles the evil Horai in the hopes of restoring peace.
  • Traditional top down shooter with relentless twitch action
  • Cutting edge and highly acclaimed console arcade shooting game
  • Amazing 3D backgrounds + effects
  • IKARUGA World-Wide Championship (net ranking feature)

 Great game. Very difficult

Ikaruga is a game that frustrates almost as much as it rewards. Negative points first, the playing are does not cover the whole TV screen, you are left with two large black spaces to the left and right of the playing area. The other problem is the difficulty, the tutorial level is (as you would expect) easy enough, but after that it is a relentless shooter.
On the plus side it has great graphics for a 2D shooter. It also puts a new twist on the genre by enableing your ship to change colour from black to white, the point of this is that as you are being shot at all of your enemies firepower is also black and white and depending on your colour you either take damage or absorb its power.

On the whole a Fantastic but very hard game.
