Having played the BETA from day one i can say that it has progressed into a stable, enjoyable shooter. Lag and disconnections are far less frequent than the start.
I would urge people to enter this with an open mind and forget about MW2 as this is completely different in scale, pace and concept.
The game is best enjoyed with friends and teamwork is the key.Get a headset and some buddies and you are in for a rewarding experience indeed. Lonewolves will not score well on this battlefield. It does require persistence and a few well invested hours working in a squad will reward you with the most satisfying gameplay ever. A well organised squad will dominate if you have a good mixture of classes and getting fragged isn't an issue with a good medic at hand.
After progressing through the ranks and getting a few unlocks i can see that the persitence is vast and the level 11 cap just managed to scratch the surface.
PC gamers have been promised additional content on launch day for free with more support promised. (although DICE does not have a good track record)
When you get used to the slower more deliberate pace the hours fly by. (war is a marathon not a Sprint.)
The destruction model is not without its faults but i am sure this will be polished up with future patches no doubt.
Give it a few days to become stable and give it a few hours of your time with an open mind and you will fall for the addictive battlefield formula.
Batllefield is superior to COD in my humble opinion and a must for BF fans of games passed (played all COD and BF games over the years)
SEE YOU ON THE BATTLEFIELD
After playing this game for several months on the PS3 I found the graphics and gameplay were not as good as I had hoped. The PS3 version like the PC version had some issues including connection issues in the middle of games which is very frustrating as some online games can last up to an hour each. Am glad to say that the PC servers and recent updates have fixed most of the teething problems, however there are still occasional connection issues (for me).
Despite these problems this game is much better than the PS3 version, although I was not convinced my PC would do the game justice despite it being pretty powerful modern gaming biased PC (not a harcore gaming rig by any means). After watching people play on PC and noticing that the game looked better than the PS3 version, I am glad I took the risk of buying this for PC. The gameplay is better the graphics are MUCH better and more atmospheric. The sound a visuals on this game are immense and I am still not yet quite maxed out on the graphics settings. The game feels more involved than the PS3 version, but be sure you have a good monitor and speakers to get the best out of this game, the sound is phenominal.
Am not going to bore you with all the details as am sure most of you will know what this game is about. Couple other issues you may like to know about:
1. The xbox/PC controller does not work completely on this game, cant get the right analogue joystick to function or the triggers (great shame again software developers, shame on you).
2. The vehicles are again far to weak again in my opinion (even with armor upgrade), and just help attract the enemy to your position unless you have a good team to back you up.
3. The online team element does not often work very well, you find people coming and going out of the game and not involving or "aware" of what is going on.
With an excellent single player campaign (for the PC, not the PS3) and an online mode that is at least interesting, often fun and can be a real thrill with large maps, this is the best FPS game yet. No contest.
Only have the one level on the beta but so far the game is pretty immense, and hasn't lost any of the great play from battlefield 2. Lush graphics great gameplay, massive levels and its nice to be able to snipe properly without getting shot by someone half way across the level with a machine gun (ahem COD).
I see alot of people here writing negative comments before the game is even out. Don't judge it on what the Beta is like.
Beta's are there for finding and stomping bugs, most of which will be fixed either before release or with a release day patch if they havn't been fixed within the game already.
When it's released theres no doubt in my mind that it'll be polished and free of most of the bugs people have mentioned. Granted there will be some still there but thats why they will continue to support the game, just like they have with every single Battlefield game which has come before it.
Don't worry I am sure this game will be great, dispite what you may hear coming out of the beta.
I have currently spent over 27 hrs of playing the PC beta - it is a remarkable game, EA/Dice have done some serious homework - I have played all of the Battlefield series from day 1 and it gets better which each game.
The beta version is all about finding and reporting the 'bugs' - folks need to understand what 'beta' actually means before moaning about it in the inappropiate place - go tell it in the EA forum, that's what it's for!
Personally I've found very few, certainly nothing that has spoilt the fun, teamwork and gameplay.
The most exciting addition to the BF series is the total destruction - absolutely every part of the scenery can be blown to kingdom come with great satisfaction - sniper hiding in a darkened window? heck, launch a rifle grenade and blow a whole section of brickwork off, exposing or killing the chap ;-)
The one map offered with the beta is intense, stretched over 3 sections - however each section has to be 'conquered' before moving on to the next.
Some fantastic vehicles and weapons... this will be the military FPS of 2010, already with a massive following and established and well run 'free' servers to play multiplayer on.
Totally recommend buying a copy!
