Experience the horror of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos in this first-person horror game that combines intense action and adventure elements. Draw upon your skills in exploration, investigation, and combat while faced with the seemingly impossible task of battling evil incarnate.
Jack Walters was a highly revered police detective before his encounter with the Mythos changed his life. After his first encounter with the Mythos he was diagnosed with severe amnesia and schizophrenia and was committed to an asylum. Several years later his faculties returned and he was discharged. Fuelled by a burning desire to discover more about the dark secrets of the universe and the mysteries of his own past, he set himself up as a private detective in which he only took cases with a Mythos connection. Desperate for answers he takes a new case involving stories of strange creatures , unholy rituals, unexplained prosperity, and disappearances of several people from a town called Innsmouth.
  • Diverse array of levels from quaint towns to alien locations, including Deep One City
  • Dynamic Sanity system resulting in hallucinations, panic attacks, vertigo, paranoia, and more!
  • Incredibly detailed real-time graphics with atmospheric lighting and dynamic shadows
  • Intelligent gameplay involving puzzle solving as well as combat and exploration

Wrongly marketed as a first person shooter this is more of a stealth game (you're about halfway through it before you even get a gun). The graphics and atmosphere are first rate, the bus ride into Innsmouth is beautifully done. There are faults that could and should have been rectified by a patch (some sections are criminally hard) but poor sales meant no official patch was issued, an unofficial patch available via the game's forums will help the more frustrating parts.

Just finished this awseome game, just my style. If you like your games to offer some mental challenges and not just mindless destruction.. then this is for you. Set in the first person mode you are a private detective investigating strange goings on in the village of Innsmouth, set in the thirties in a backwater village which leads you through some challenging gameplay, and then some!! Gameplay is excellent graphics are very good also. i must confess I used a walkthrough guide for some parts else i would have gone insane .. just like my character, patience is a virtue - BUY IT!!

 Awesome classic game

This game is awesome. i remember playing it years ago and the gameplay is amazing. playing it now makes it look a little bit dated but you have to remember that IT IS a little bit dated. you cannot buy this game expectin CoD 4 graphics then be dissapointed and moan about it.
some of the gameplay features are rather cool, especially for the release date. healing yourself after taking damage is quite in depth, with different medical equipment needed to heal different wounds. if u take too much damage to an area it'll deteriorate, and your character can visibly suffer from things such as vertigo, with the players vision became fuzzy and disorientated when lookin down from heights.
the storyline and atmosphere are brilliant, and i would highly recommend this game to anyone who fancies playing somethin a bit different from the generic CoD style games infesting the charts at the moment.

Just my type (but is a bit dark)

Just to let you know, I own the xbox version and I don't know wether the problems in this version are carried over but as far as I can tell this is an intriguing game, (for me anyway). for the review below, it is just personal opinion and in my eyes it is one of the best games I own.
If you have read HP lovecraft's books then you will love this game making it more accesible and having a good story behind it. The graphics are of course dated as it was released years ago but still they are great, however it is dark most of the time. I bought this both as a reader of Lovecraft's novels and of Betseda's games so I for one, reccomend this game to anyone and for a fan of LOVECRAFT'S or BETHESDA's work.

This is not an FPS and is a poor adventure game. The grahpics are more 2003 than 2007 and control of the main character feels clunky at best. Save game function most annoying too, you can only save at certain points which is no fun when you are being chased by 2 bad guys for a few minutes, having to open, close then lock the doors behind for them to burst through (still no weapon to fiight with yet you see!) only to have to try jump onto ledges, miss and drop to your death and do the whole thing over again from the start. This game is toilet and only a fiver for a reason.
