Set in a virtual, persistent online universe in which millions of players around the globe can participate, The Matrix Online will feature cutting-edge graphics, real-time martial arts combat and a rich storyline that picks up where The Matrix Revolutions, the third chapter in The Matrix film trilogy, leaves off.
Players of The Matrix Online are newly freed "redpills" released after Neo wins the battle for humanity's freedom. Now they're only visitors to a world they thought they knew - a sprawling urban landscape of subways, nightclubs, skyscrapers, and dark alleys. But now they're part of the secret war that goes on underneath the pedestrian surface - a war of survival and control between Machines, Zionists, and Exiles.
  • Dozens of weapons and dramatic martial arts maneuvers that capture the "wire fu" Matrix experience. Use devastating special moves and sneak attacks including breath-taking bullet-time effects that are intelligently generated based on player moves and tactics.
  • Plot lines by the creators of The Matrix continue the Matrix story where the movie trilogy leaves off and provide you with deep insight into the world of the Matrix.
  • The Matrix Online will engage you with special events, missions, and monthly story cinematics, all of which effect the action in the game.
  • A full Rich World cityscape environment with traffic, living neighborhoods and breathtaking skylines that immerse players in the most authentic Matrix MegaCity ever created (Using RichWorld technology).
  • A robust mission system designed for maximum re-playability and depth. Players receive missions from familiar organizations in the Matrix, such as Zion and the Machines.
  • Authentic "Matrix style" clothing and character customization options allow players to live a virtual life that reflects the fashion of the Matrix movies.
  • Find, create, or trade Matrix "ability code" that provides incredible knowledge and skill to your character. Unlike other massively multiplayer games, ability code can be swapped out and exchanged like trading cards, providing unprecedented flexibility in the development of a character.
  • Players can tap into sources of "information" in the game to create or steal code fragments. Code can be used to create both special Matrix items and special abilities.

I got into the beta for this game, back when it was being run by Monolith. A few months after release it was bought by Sony Online Entertainment and recieved no where near the publicity that Star Wars Galaxies or Everquest 2 gets.

Over the last 3 years the game has changed dramatically and improved. While it dosnt have the population of some larger games or the most regular content. It boasts, the best comunity ive ever seen in a game and regular live events (1-2 a week per server) involving characters from the movies. These events are the barebones of what makes this game great.

Another great feature is the ability to change class at any time. If you know the movies you know how they learn their skills. Its as simple in The Matrix Online. One minute you can be a master of Kung-Fu, the next an expert Sniper.

The final unique feature of the game is the combat system. The "Interlock" system brings combat in a series of animations, locking two combatants together. This gives combat movie like flowing action.

All in all a great game. Well worth buying.....

Free your mind, then play this game.

Now when i saw the trailer for this game i thought it might flop but 2 years on and its still going on and strong as ever. Its not hard to see why i started playing it about 3 months ago and i've enjoyed every bit so far, the missions are good you can replay them and get more xp for it. The characters you can meet are realy good and im not just talking about NPC's im also talking about the PC's as well. I like trying to find answers to the questions i had at the end of last film like what became of Neo. The three factions plus sub factions makes it a good way to seek out new alies and enemies much easyer. A must buy.

 A warning-Don't bother

Earlier this year, Sony announced they will be pulling the plug on the game's server on 31st July 2009. At the time of writing this, that will mean that anyone who buys this game will only be able to play it for a month before the server will be shut down forever.

I recommend that you save your money for something else. Otherwise alot of your time will be wasted and when the server goes down, you will not be able to get your money back.
