A ruthless secret group of petroleum company owners known as the Consortium finances an international terrorist organisation to stage a series of attacks around the world in an effort to destabilise the global economy and profit from skyrocketing oil prices. A group of seasoned military veterans and young techies are recruited into a special high-tech task force and begin the worldwide job of tracking down the terrorists and uncovering the international conspiracy before the terrorists can strike in the heart of America itself.

Ripped from today's headlines, Act of War: Direct Action is a frightening and believable tale of suspense, international intrigue and geopolitical military conflict. Through a techno-thriller story constructed by best-selling author Dale Brown, this real-time strategy experience puts you squarely in control of counterterrorist forces to defend cities of the world. It's the first look at tomorrow's war. No place is safe!
  • Storyline and game universe created in close cooperation with Dale Brown, 15 times NY Times best-selling author and expert on US military, global conflict and future military technology.
  • Zoom down to street level on the urban battlefields of San Francisco, Washington DC, London and Moscow - all highly detailed, realistic, and fully destructible. With a game-play where success is partly determined by your ability to medevac your own wounded soldiers and take enemies prisoner (rather than killing them), contemporary/near-future combat comes to life in a very modern way.
  • First real-time strategy to combine a reality universe with simple, elegant game play. Using highly detailed representations of existing and experimental military technology, all to scale, Act of War: Direct Action offers an authentic battle experience without the authentic complexity.
  • Strong focus on exceptional production values (audio, cinematics, story, technology).
  • Full 3D with ability to zoom in to see the action up-front for full immersion into the action.
  • Level of detail in character animations and textures only seen in FPS games to date.
  • Extensive multiplayer options and single-player skirmish mode for infinite replayability.

Act of War - Direct Action
I got this for an amazing GBP2.50, brand new sealed, from play trade ("startupmedia") - placed the order at 9.00pm on Thursday, received on Saturday 10.00am !!!

The game itself is amazing - Comparing it to CnC Generals, which I play regularly, the graphics are better and the game just flows - the online and network play is amazingly smooth (compared to Generals on which network doesn't work 50% of the time), and single player is also a lot of fun - the campaign story lines are decent, and skirmishes can be played over and over on different maps (a lot of which are very similar to Generals).

 Great RTS

This must be one of the best RTSs I own, the graphics look amazing, the units are realistic, it has a very good story line in the campaign mode and you can garison buildings with loads of infantry.

 Amazing

think command and conquer and then think 100 times better cause this game really is the attention to detail is immense and units that r actually realistic to todays militery and with the very gud story line whihc alot of rts games lack this is a must buy and wiv out a shadow of a doubt the best present to future rts game iv ever played on command and conquer beware thats all am saying.

 Its good

Yeah its a very good game but its no way better then Command and Conquer series. I think this game is fun and yeah good graohics but only have it if you DONT like Command and conquer!!!.

 C&C clone, not very inspiring.

Glossy command and conquor clone, decent although lackluster single player game, but it won't hold your interest for long. The game centers around resources, early acquisition of them, and base/tech management. Command troops, tanks, planes and nukes. An innovative feature is acquiring prisoners for $. Reasonably worthwhile for less than £10.
