Guild Wars: Prophecies
You don't have to spend countless hours on a leveling treadmill to get to the interesting parts of the game, because combat is designed to be strategically interesting and challenging right from the beginning. You don't have to spend hours running around the world to prepare for a quest, because Guild Wars allows you to instantly travel to the beginning of any quest that you've previously unlocked. You'll never spend days playing only to discover that choices you made early on have left you with a permanently uncompetitive character, because the unique skill system in Guild Wars allows infinite experimentation but doesn't allow bad decisions to ruin a character. And you'll never meet new players only to discover that you can't play with them or compete against them because their characters are on a different server than yours; in Guild Wars, all characters live in one seamless world.
  • After learning the game and building up your first character, you may choose to test your skills in head-to-head competition or guild warfare. The game is designed to reward player skill and teamwork, not time spent playing, so you won't need to spend hundreds of hours leveling up your character to compete.
  • The game includes integrated support for guilds, with guild banners and halls, chat rooms and forums. Guilds can challenge other guilds to battle, compete for control of key parts of the world, and be ranked on a worldwide ladder.
  • Your party always has its own unique copy of the quest map, so camping, kill-stealing, and long lines to complete quests are all things of the past. Within a quest you have unprecedented freedom and power to manipulate the world around you: your magic can build bridges and open up new pathways, or it can burn down forests and tear the ground asunder.

Its alright....but its not the best example on the market!

If you don't like the idea of subscription then this is a great entry into the MMORPG genre. However this is not as immersive as other games that are in this genre. Just to warn you, you are only with other people in the server when you are in the main citys. When you leave the cities, you are alone unless you invite a group to go with you.
Guild Wars is worth the money, however i recommend you to buy World of Warcraft instead, its a much more polished game, which allows you to interact with everyone while playing. Anyone whos says different is lying. Ok, you have to pay £9.99/month to play, but i bought it in January and havent bought any other game since, so ive saved myself a fortune.
To round up get Guild Wars if you are tight-fisted! otherwise...look around : )

 Amazing MMORPG

I got this game about 2 years ago, then i got all the expansions, this game just keeps getting better and better. ArenaNet keeps updating Guild Wars which makes the game more fun, plus all the festival activities makes it all fun. I would highly recommend this game to massive and epic MMORPG fans.

A FANTASTIC INTRODUCTION TO ONLINE GAMING!

I bought this game last week and have not played anything else since. It is the first online game I have tried - due to the fact it does not require a subscription fee - and is proving to be a first class title. Okay, so lots of the quests seem to be "find the so-and-so item and take it to so-and-so" or "go and slay the something-or-other" variety, but surely this is what gaming is all about? A nice, enjoyable time of things!

This game has plenty to recommend it, too. Six different character classes to choose from (although only one race - Human - which is explained in the rule book) and the gameworld is large, with plenty of places to visit, loads of things to kill and a multitude of items and other treasure to find. Just what a good role-playing game should offer. Combat is simple and quick, and so satisfying when you slay an opponent. You can even create up to four characters - although you can only play one at once, as this is a single-character RPG - and purchase more character slots online for £2.99 each - although if you purchase either of the other "Guild Wars" titles (Factions & Nightfall) you get two character slots per title for free.

Other player-characters only appear in settlements rather than in the wilderness (which is populated solely by monsters and NPCs) although if you join up with other players to go questing, you can all go out of town together, and complete the various missions as a group, which is reminiscent of table-top RPGs, and really good fun.

I have only sampled the co-operative play yet, although there is also a player-verses-player mode available too.

In summary, if you enjoyed games like both "Dungeon Siege" RPGs, "Baldur's Gate", "Neverwinter Nights" and "Diablo", you really cannot go wrong here, particularly for the price and the fact you will not have to pay anything else for the game, ever. Unless of course you also purchase "Guild Wars: Factions" and "Guild Wars: Nightfall", which add whole new continents to the gameworld and lots more items and skills - although they are not necessary and each of the "Guild Wars" 'sets' is a single game in itself.

Highly recommended!

 Good for the money

This is the only one time play MMORPG that I could ever find. Some, like WoW might have more detail and less loading but the fact that you have to renew your pprescripttion evens it out. You can come back and play it again if you stop playing for a while (your account wont be deleted) and if you don't like it, you only waste the main price instead of the extra money you paid for the 1st month as well.

Personally, I love this game, it's always expanding and has special items every holiday, even some made up ones! Good game, I would recommend this version (prophecies) to start as it has the easiest learning curve (but impatient people would probably want to start with nightfall; much quicker start and no way to skip pieces of story ;]).

The only real problems caused in the game are by the regular nutters you get in any MMO. (Obsessives, real world money sellers and people who aren't very nice but I'm not allowed to say the word on here so I'll settle with bum hole.)

Well worth the price their asking

Guild wars has been out for 2 years now and still has a strong following, seeing the Guild Wars: Prophecies is now being offered for £9.99 this is a must purchace. this is an online game that is fun to play with no monthly fees, so if you find that you dont like it after a few weeks you can just bung to the back of the pile knowing that you will always have an acount with them if you fancied a game at a later date . you wont find player killers here and its not a proper MMORPG but it does feal like it. its a bargain at £9.99
