By taking the suspense, challenge and visceral charge of the original, adding startling new realism and responsiveness, Half-Life 2 opens the door to a world where the player's presence affects everything around him, from the physical environment to the behaviours - even the emotions - of both friends and enemies.

The player again picks up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa. And a lot of people - people he cares about - are counting on him.

Graphics: Source's shader-based renderer, like the one used at Pixar to create movies such as Toy Story and Monster's Inc., creates the most beautiful and realistic environments ever seen in a video game.

A.I.: Neither friends nor enemies charge blindly into the fray. They can assess threats, navigate tricky terrain, and fashion weapons from whatever is at hand.

Physics: Objects - from pebbles to water to 2-ton trucks - respond as expected, as they obey the laws of mass, friction, gravity, and buoyancy.

Characters: Advanced facial animation system delivers the most sophisticated in-game characters ever seen. With 40 distinct facial muscles, human characters convey the full array of human emotion, and respond to the player with fluidity and intelligence.

      The Cons?

To get the most out of this game your PC's hardware will have to be good. Spend Xbox 360 money on some new RAM and a graphics Card and you'll see this game in all its glory.

And almost 3 years on it is still one of the finest looking games out their. Fantastic detail, especially in the characters faces. They way they interact and look at you is mind blowing. If you haven't the latest graphics hardware, don't worry as this game is incredibly scalable to all manners of hardware configurations.

Buy this game and you can also try out the brilliant hardware tester that is Half Life, lost Coast, testing out new High Dynamic Range lighting.

The steam platform this game operates from allows you to buy lots of 3rd party games and keeps your game up to date with the latest patches and MODs.

As a single player game, the story is very engaging, gun battles are ferocious and the in game physics accuratly reflect how objects would react in the real world.

The gravity gun is excellent, and when it gets pimped out at the end, you'll not want to use another weapon.

Gameplay is excellent, maps are huge graphics from my radeon x1950pro incredible.

The biggest advantage over any console for a PC is the speed in which you can engage the enemy is much faster with a mouse. An instant for a head shot, rather than scrolling thumb sticks. A flick of the mouse is all it takes.

So what else is their except the Solo campaign.

Well, both Half life 1 and Half Life 2 have death Match. Using maps from the game, play against gamers all over the world to the death.

You also get the world's most played and highly competitive counter strike source. A squad based first person shooter with a huge variety of maps.

Get into this and it will take over your life. Join a clan and get into competitive Ranked games and tournements. Or play for fun its your choice. Graphics and effects again are excellent.

Whats more the game is free!

Overall, if your a PC owner and FPS fan, you must, must play this excellent game.

At least you won't have to wait to see the outcome of the cliffhanger.... Completing this will make you buy and play half life: Episode 1

       The best game ever made!!

over 2 years old now but not slowing up at all, stunning gameplay, story, graphics, AI..... you get the message. Get your PC pimped up for episode 2 and nothing on earth can compare with it. It's a way of life.

Plus you get Counterstrike: Source with it which is by far the most addictive online fps you can get - it is that good.

note: more memory is better for this game, i suggest 1 gig minimum.

       Absolutely Mind-blowing!

As a child i grew up on fighting off world creatures with a crow bar in my right hand and a flashlight in the other. Half-Life was superb during the time and now many games have taken on features from this awesome game!

Half-Life 2 is brilliant. My dad; my brother and I were hooked until we had destroyed every last little bugger that caused us hastle on the game!

It is truely amazing and i advise any and all to buy this game and play it for yourself!

If you've played Half-Life 1 then your in for a mind blowing treat because this shall rock your socks off!!! The weapons are greater; the risk is still apocoliptic and the stakes just get better!

Control a huge ammount of weapons or unleash aliens from another world upon your foes!

Still one of the best 1st person shooters for the PC!

Back in 1998 I brought myself a PC and one of the reasons was to be able to the first Half Life game. Ten years later I buy myself a new PC and I just had to buy myself a copy of Half Life 2. Just as I thought it would be the story and gameplay are some of the best examples of this type of game yet. Alongside Goldeneye on the old N64 the Half Life games are my favourite 1st person shooters. If they make another Half Life game I will have to make sure my PC is powerful enough to run it. Half Life 2 still looks pretty good by todays standards but the most important part to me is that the gamplay is ace.

The game that spawned a million games .

Half life 2 has got to be the best game ive played , it was the most anticipated of all time giving a sequel after 10 yrs from the first half life, has spawned a million ideas which other games have copied ( like the gravity gun ) and has the added bonus of the worlds most played multi-player game of all time - Counter Strike Source . You can also play half life 2 deathmatch which is included .
overall this is one of those games which is a must have !
