Sid Meier's Civilization V is the fifth offering in the multiaward winning Civilization strategy game series featuring the famous "just one more turn" addictive gameplay that has made it one of the greatest game series of all time.

In Civilization V, players strive to become Ruler of the World by establishing and leading a cvilization from the dawn of man into the space age, waging war, conducting diplomacy, discovering new technologies, going head-to-head with some of history's greatest leaders and building the most powerful empire the world has ever known.

Please Note: An internet connection and Steam account are required to download and play some content.

  • Civilization 5: Game Of The Year Edition Includes:
  • All 4 Cradle of Civilization Map packs
  • Double Civilization & Scenario Pack: Spain and Inca
  • Civilization & Scenario Pack: Polynesia
  • Multiplayer Map Pack
  • Official Digital Soundtrack
  • Believable World: More than just a strategy game - the expanded visuals and immersive audio invite would-be kings to take up the reigns of power and forge a mighty empire. Civilization V offers a limitless variety of vast, realistic and diverse landscapes for players to explore, battle over and claim as their own
  • Inviting Presentation: An intuitive interface eases both new players and Civ veterans into the game. Guided by a set of trusted advisors who will explain game functionality and provide counsel for significant decisions, even first-time players will be confident in the choices they make
  • Huge Battles: Combat is more exciting and engaging than ever before. Wars between empires feel massive with armies spreading across the landscape. The addition of ranged bombardment allows players to fire weapons from behind the front lines, challenging players to develop clever new strategies to guarantee victory on the battlefield
  • Live History: Write your own epic story each time you play! Choose one of eighteen historical civilizations to lead from the stone-age to the space age on your quest to build the world's most powerful empire
  • Improved Diplomacy: Negotiate with some of history's most cunning rulers, each with a well-crafted plan for victory. Successful diplomacy will depend on players carefully managing relationships with other leaders, trading items and land, plying them with gold, and deciding if they are friend or foe. City States will present a new diplomatic battleground on which the major powers of the world will vie for supremacy
  • In-Game Community Hub: Compete with Civ players from all over the globe via the Internet, offering endless ways to rule the world. The game itself now serves as the hub of community activity, featuring the ability to share scenarios, compare scores, brag about achievements and visit one of the thriving Civ fansites without leaving the game. It's now easier than ever for players to become involved in the global Civ Community
  • Modability: With unprecedented modding tools, players will have unlimited options for modifying Civilization V any way they like

 The Ultimate Strategy Game

The latest instalment of the long running series continues the evolution of the ultimate strategy game. Starting with a single band of settlers at the dawn of man-kind the goal is to create the ultimate civilization to eclipse all rivals. Whether you do this by colonising the stars, waging war on your enemies or marvelling all comers with your sophisticated culture is completely up to you.

Forgoing the usual campaign mode Civilization instead allows players to create a world of their own devising and jump right into it either by themselves or with others in multiplayer. Customisation has always been key to the series and before each game players can choose the makeup of their world such as the balance of ocean to land or the scarcity of natural resources.

Continuing its turned based, rather than real time, gameplay this new edition does make a few changes from the previous instalment. For the first time it ditches the square based tiles and replaces them with hexagons allowing for more realistic terrain movement. The ability to stack multiple units on single tiles is also removed. This prevents the 'stack of dooms' seen in previous titles that made battles dull wars of attrition at later stages of the game.

As would be expected new technologies and units are also added to the mix and a few features, such as religion, have been removed although most impact positively on the gameplay.

In the end whether you are successful or not the Civilization series has always been about creating your own stories and yet again it succeeds.

Game of the Year Edition is a must buy

Was about to buy Civ V and then I spotted this Game of the Year edition on Play. It doesnt appear to be anywhere else and I only noticed this by total chance. Anyway - if you are going to buy Civ V get this one! This one has all the DLC which installs with the game plus the soundtrack and a big fold out poster with tech tree and lots of info. Its about the same price as the normal one too! Just buy it and thank me later. Having all the DLC already means no more downloading and saves you money too. So its a no-brainer. Oh and by the way - Its addictive as hell and Im a Civ veteran from the first one.

 Great Game

I agree that this game is a step back in terms of complexity compared to the previous, but this may just be with the intention of adding on features via expansion packs. With regards to criticisms of the lack of humour and slow paced game, if you are looking for either I would n't really recommend any of the Civ franchise!

You can read elsewhere this is generally great game.

Too sad to stand in the shadow of Civ IV

I bought this game blindly on release.
Having been a long time player of the franchise I was expecting it to be the greatest addition to my game collection in years.
It has been a bitter disappointment.
Alas...
The gameplay is shallow, the AI simply dumb. Not a trace of the feel and humor of the previous installment to be found.
Though it tries to be darker and more serious visually. That effect is utterly destroyed by the sheer shallowness of it all.
Graphically I also feel it to be very disappointing.
