From Brian Reynolds, designer of "Civilization II" and "Alpha Centauri", comes "Rise of Nations", combining the epic scope of "Civilization" with the fast-paced action of real-time strategy games. "Rise of Nations" allows players to create new cities, improve their city infrastructure and expand national borders. Players have the option to win through military might, using everything from slingshots to cannons to stealth bombers; corner the market on key commodities; and wheel and deal with a wide variety of civilizations. "Rise of Nations" allows the gamer to quickly play from the Stone Age to the modern age.
  • Cross genre gameplay-Combining pulse-pounding real-time gaming with the epic scope of turn-based strategy games, "Rise of Nations" allows players to have a fast and fun experience while completing a game in under an hour. The game's epic scope moves throughout the ages, tying together the mysteries of ancient philosophy and wonders of the world.
  • Zooming scale- Zooming capabilities provide players with a global view of many cities and sweeping military campaigns while still controlling the progress of individual cities and battles. Clearly defined national borders enable players to focus on nation building.
  • Multiple victory conditions - Players succeed through non-military and quasi-military strategies including espionage, economic manipulations, political maneuvering and population growth. Players can also choose to win through the raw power of a military conquest.
  • Streamlined multiplayerIn the multiplayer mode on Zone.com, players build up resources and move through different time periods quickly, reaching the game's climax in a timely fashion. By expediting the gameplay experience, "Rise of Nations" offers multiplayer gamers immediate gratification and maximum fun.

 Rise of Oh.... dear

Well the game gets 5 stars for gameplay and some of the well developed mods that go with it, like Draxus. The game is very much like orginal Age of Empires and the graphics are not that good even if you change the rise.ini file to fit your resolution it still looks quite bad im ruinning it at 1920x 1080 and it looks well laughable. But because its such a simple and good game you overlook the graphics after a few playtrhoughs. I hae had days months weeks of entertainment from this, and I will honestly say its alot better to play than Empure earth 2,3 age of empires series and the total wars. This game still rules the roost im afraid.

 One for the ages..

Rise of Nations is what Age of Empires 3 should have been. Endless hours of pure strategy fun. Combining classic RTS battles with a Risk-like Campaign map is as brilliant as it is simple. Every different nation represents a challenge or a possible strategy for you to utilize or defeat. Different game modes and the ability to randomize resources and starting positions gives the game a lot of re-playability. I will never forgive Big Huge Games for not following up with a worthy successor to this great strategy game - Which is truly one of the best strategy games there ever was.

good but old game...works on vista too

It may be a old game but its still a good one.It also works on vista.I have it running on 64bit vista.
Only thing that does not work on vista is the updates.
But the games still runs.
Its cheap too.BARGAIN.
