  Over Hyped IMO

I played this game through from beginning to end when it first came out and I must say I felt disappointed. The story was good but I didn't feel captivated throughout the game and the gameplay didn't appear to vary. I'm in the minority in my opinion of the game I know but I really did not enjoy this game. When I finished it it reminded me of Assassins Creed 1, what an awful game that was. Repetitive and boring.

This is a pretty good game.

The graphics are good, the art concept better, but what makes this game stand out is the pure originality. It is sci fi fantasy, with the usual level system, the gathering of abilities and weapons, but these are so original and so much fun.

Bioshock is a brilliant game. A nice mix of shooting action and some scares. If you have a top end pc then you can't go wrong in buying this game, now for a tenner it is still good enough to buy for 30 quid in my opinion. A must buy.

I wasn't sure if I would like this game - I'm not a traditional fan of survival horror. Luckily, this isn't a traditional survival horror game. Think less 'random zombies lunging at you from the dark' and more 'incredibly imaginative bad guys tracking you through some of the most beautiful levels you'll have ever seen'. Rapture, the underwater city setting, is a gorgeously realised and graphically stunning 50's utopia gone-wrong. It feels real thanks to gorgeous graphics and innovative level design. The bad guys, twists and combat are all excellent. Hatching bees from your arms to attack a bad guy never gets old. And the Big Daddys (that guy on the cover) are fantastic. Enjoyable, gorgeous, and with great replayability. I found the ending a little abrupt (my moral choices were a little...questionable) but that's the bonus of multiple endings. It's great fun to replay whether to see the outcome of different decisions, or just to try all the different genetic enhancements.

One of the deepest gaming experience i have ever had

Simply amazing.
This game is so so deep in his concept. Everything is so well planned that can only contribute to make the piece of art that Bioshock is.
From the charming narration to the spectacular sound track that brings you to the old 50's, from the absolute crazyness that pervades it, trough the million ways of interaction, using your main character powers, you can take advantage to.
The graphics are also way good balanced and, togheter with all the other game parts, let you feel that claustrophobic sensation every single time.
I am convinced that this game is a masterpiece that every gamer should experience...this game is something hardcore gamers (in their true meaning and nature) always pine for; something deep that go beyond the mere concept of "having fun"

I'm not a huge fan of first person shooters....in fact I avoid them most of the time, however I had heard many good reviews about this game, and when I found it on PC for 10 pounds I decided to just buy it and see what it was all about. I was not disappointed! The graphics are superb. My PC allowed me to have all the settings on high so it looked great! The water effects are really nicely done and the city of Rapture itself, although decaying it is still beautiful. The opening shot of the City in the bathosphere took my breath away. The Art Deco style of everything is brilliant and adds a really good atmosphere to the game, and the eery sounds of the vending machines kept me on edge too.
The storyline was pretty good too, and I'm the type of gamer who goes for story and gameplay over graphics. The twists and turns it takes are really nail biting too.
There was never a dull moment for me in this game and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys FPS or action/adventure games.
Bring on BioShock 2!

Amazing peice of Art, but not to my taste

Bioshock is obviously a cleverly designed, intricicately thought out and amazing well planned. From the word go the game is original, and thought provoking, theres no room left for imagination at all.

You crash into the sea and enter what gradually turns out to be an underwater city, that has ruined itself by abusing a revolutionary drug that allows supernatural powers to be harnessed by the user.

For me, stuff kicks off way too fast. Withing 10 minutes of playing, as an ordinary guy, your firing electric bolts out of your hand. Although this is exciting, it really is drop in at the deep end sort of stuff, and i never found a moment when i could reflect and have things put into perspective.

This makes Bioshock a dreamy kind of atmosphere, and (annoyingly) as the radio comm's with your directions and objectives are muted out by the sound effects, i found myself not sure what to do a lot of the time.

The combat again, i really wasnt too impressed with, although using Plasmids (the drugs) to do various malicious things was always fun.

Graphically, and Bioshock ticks most of the boxes. The water effects are fantastic, fire and ice again, brilliant, but i generally found Bioshock to have that cartoony style that certain games do.

The highlight for me in Bioshock was coming across the infamous 'Big daddies' - the huge bio-mechanical creature on the front cover. Scrapping these monsters is a barrage of light and sound, and really needs to be expeirenced first hand to appreciate it!

Overall, i'd admit that the design, idea's and construction behind this game is flawless, and very immersive. I just didnt find the gameplay enough to keep me hooked. For the price - its worth getting, purely to experience what i think is a fairly big landmark in gaming history.

Worth buying, but slightly over hyped!

Ran fine on maximum settings on the following

AMDAthlon 64x2 4600+
Nvidia GeForce 8800GT
1.5 GB Ram

NOTE: If your using a Widescreen monitor, be sure to manually patch bioshock with the latest patch from TK's website.
