4 The real successor to Doom and Quakeipshop | 17/07/2007 | See all ipshop's reviews (33)Painkiller is perhaps much more of a successor to the old Doom and Quake games than the official versions. This game is simple, straightforward blasting. The plot is a pretty thin excuse to blow seven shades out of everything, and the fact that the cut scenes are pretty poor and hard to follow is totally irrelevant. This game is simply about shooting things - zombies, knights, witches and a plethora of other demonic foe inhabit some beautifully realised levels. Add to this some truly impressive and entertaining boss fights, and one of the best thought out arsenals of any game. You haven't played until you've heard the incredibly satisfying thud of stake gun bolts as they hammer the opposition into the masonry! Pure, senseless, joyful blasting at it's best!
