Its not the greatest game ever but if your a big Duke Nukem fan you should be pleased, plenty of what you remember Duke being famous for, foul mouthed language, women, blowing up big monsters etc! Its been a long time since we have seen him on our screens so a new generation can get into Duke Nukem now! The graphics have improved big time and it has a few new things thrown in, worth picking up if you a big fan.
You may have read a few bad reviews about DNF on the odd forum here and there. But I cant really come up with more than 2 bad points about this game. Ill get them out of the way first.
It is unfortunately another dumbing down for console victim. You got your hide until your health or ego in DNF regenerates instead of having to find health packs or having to make it to the end of a level on 10% health. Then there is the only carrying 2 weapons at a time. Which some might argue makes it more tactical. Pfft I dont want tactical. I want a huge arsenal of destruction in my pocket.
Ok now thats out of the way. Hail to the king baby. He is back. At the very start of the game I found myself spending half hour just playing with Dukes pool table. Laughing away as one of the girls nearby giggled each time I put the white ball in a pocket. Its definitely full of the old Duke humour as well as some new. Ok so the graphics arent massively special by todays standard. But lets face it that was never really the point with Duke Nukem games. Considering this all started with a side scroller.
Its so far been great fun to play with a laugh around each corner and the odd trip down memory lane. I absolutely recommend this one to you old schoolers out there. I have to give this a big thumbs up and am looking forward to hitting the multiplayer once ive played the singleplayer campaign to death. What can I say im an achievement junky.
Peace.
During the game one of Duke's chicks asks him about a computer game that Duke was playing on a big TV: "Was it any good?" Duke answered: "Yeah, but after 12 freaking years, it should be...". After finishing the game I do believe that that game is good. Not perfect, but really good.
It has many different mini-games and adventures in it - driving a small car, slot games, air hockey, basketball, pinball and even billiards. It also has a few puzzles and some mild erotic content. Being reduced to an action figure size and navigating through human size areas is a nice challenge. But what I value the most is the good sense of humor and typical Duke's comments during the game. Some of them are really funny.
I don't understand why some people are giving low rating for the game. It's not supposed to be anything like "Half Life", "Rage" or "Dead Space". It's a Duke Nukem game and I think that the developers kept to the unique Duke's style really well.
So I do recommend this game if the price is right. I paid 5 euros for it on Steam and it was worth every freaking penny.
Ok so i wont say im a die hard fan of Duke .But i did play Duke 3D all those years back along with its addon packs.
So, is Duke back ? ..well.. yes.
Its got everything and more form the old Duke 3D.
People moan about the graphics being X years old ..well ..it IS a old game, what the hell do you expect. A game that was in development for that long can NEVER be up to date otherwise it would NEVER get finished.
Duke 3D was not great becouse of its graphics, it was great becouse of what it was as a game. And DNF is no different, its just a laugh.
If you play the game on its absolute maximum settings you cant really complain about the way it looks or plays.
The storyline carries on from the last game and ends ready for an expansion. And on its hardest settings it 'can' be difficult.
Buy the game, try it, its good, but DONT expect it to be another Crysis, or COD, or what not. Its a game designed to be A GAME.
Come on, what are you guys expecting? This was always what Duke was gonna be like. Since 2009 you knew it wasn't going to be ground-breaking anymore. Now, what we get is what i expected to be honest. True Duke Nukem. Its Violent, rude, insulting, annoying and goddamn hilarious.
I found it refreshing to play a game like this when every other modern shooter nowadays is trying out do one another. This doesn't follow that pattern and turns out be what it is. Fun. The graphics as most people seem to say aren't amazing, but they're not rubbish. Not on PC anyway. I've seen it on PS3 and the textures are awful. As are the load times. Don't have the latter problem on PC and textures are improved but still not great, so for us its an irrelevant point to game and more to do with consoles themselves. Still, doesn't detract from the game in my opinion.
Worth 14 years of hype? Of course its not. What game would be? But to anyone who was constantly checking in on new information on this game for 14 years really needed to sort their life out and should have just forgot about it like most people.
Its a fun game. Now to wait another decade or so for the next one...
