  Excellent continuation of BioShock 1

| | See all mindovermatter's reviews (3)

Not imperative to have played BioShock 1 to enjoy BioShock 2, but if you had played BioShock 1, then this is an excellent continuation of the game. Minor glitches exists in the game (movement gets stuck / sounds missing in the game and flickering on the plasmid selection menu. (these are documented bugs) Hopefully to be fixed soon. Requires a Games for Windows Live account - had some problems with my firewall blocking the updates, so check for that.

Some of the objects in the game are a bit low in structural quality ('octagonal' light bulbs, for instance) but the rest is what you come to expect from any modern game.

The game developers did away with the weapon selection screen (which also pauses the game) This makes it more difficult to quickly choose a new weapon AND ammo type on the fly (as you can in BioShock 1). Best is to prep and reload all the weapons in your arsenal before a fight, as to quickly switch between them during a fight.

Runs 1980X1080 (HD) on Windows 7 (64 bit) with no problems (apart from the documented bugs)

Maps are considerably larger than BioShock 1. I'd suggest to look around online for a walk-though that shows the floor maps. It's easy to miss a plasmid if you haven't explored certain sections of the vast map of each level.

All and all a very enjoyable (and pretty) game. I'd recommend it to any FPS fan.
