  Masterpiece! (Ignore the 4 stars!)

| | See all Gallarian's reviews (1)

It is nothing short of a disgrace that this games overall rating has been lowered to 4 stars just because some people expect to play forever.

Playing it 'till you complete it on the first day is just stupid, jesus, go outside once in a while and you'll find games last a lot longer!

This game is a masterpiece, from it's originality and uniqueness (games have now copied it however..), to it's brilliant voice acting, from its level design to it's truly great story.

I have yet to play a game that I have so thoroughly enjoyed as I have this, and it is made even better when you have a friend to play Co-op with.

Portal 2 is a sensational game, which if you look deeper than just how to get out of the room you are in, and in to its story and characters, you will never forget.

(plus for those who complain about the games length - Valve are releasing public tools so everyone can easily make their own levels and post them online for downloading, the game will never end!)

5 stars well earned!

  Just brilliant!

Only 2 words: Just Brilliant! Excellent story, graphics, models, characters and of course voice acting. A bit too easy gameplay, however some levels were quite challenging. The ending sequence is awesome! Really worth the money you pay for it. If you think Portal was good, then you will be surprised how much better this game is.

The Reason I Rated This So Low Is Simply Because Ive Tried Playing It 7 Times And Each Time Its Crashed Either When The Man Says Look at The Art When The Eyeball Robot Thingy Comes In Or Simply When The Game Starts. Can Anybody Help Please

(SPANISH ROBOT IS AWESOME)
P.S. About Spanish Robot It Crashes When I Open The Door Thats How I Heard It Speak Spanish because It Speaks Spanish BEFORE You Open The Door.

OK lets get few things straight. This isn't the most powerful game out there. The graphics aren't going to overheat your graphics card in a hurry. And yes it does feel a little short.
But here's the thing: The game isn't that short! At around 4 hours for single player (and thats if you get every puzzle right straight away.. which you wont!) and another 2 hours for co-op mode! Thats a total of 6 hours! That's like playing Modern Warfare 2 twice or Medal of honour 3 times!
The reason this game feels so short is because you will be laughing so much that you will miss half of the game first time round! Steven Merchant is hilarious as the misguided Wheatley and J.K. Simmons as Cave Johnson had me in tears on more than one occasion!
The game it's self runs on pretty much any half decent PC (lets face it if it runs on an Xbox it will run on and Vista machine onwards) and as it's made by Valve there are no release day patches of glitches to worry about.

After completing the game 3 times now and getting every acchievement I have to urge all of you to get this game! Everyone must experience this masterpiece with no exception! If you're only going to get one game this year.. make it Portal 2!

Fantastic game. The game uses the old source engine however, there are a lot of tweaks, Graphics are much crisper and the detail in general is better. The game seems to just go on and on and on! Took me a good few days to complete (Only on for about 2hours each of the days). Co-op is fantastic, having to help one another through the courses etc. All around awesome game and a massive improvement on the original. Great laugh, highly recommended.

Personally I thought this game was much longer, and a bit harder that Portal 1, I played it intensely 3 times and completed it, but otherwise played normally I think it would take a while longer.

Would definitely help to have completed Portal 1 story and skills wise, but even if you haven't the main story line could be easily picked up, maybe just wouldn't understand various 'in' jokes ;)

I thought it was excellent, I had high expectations from Valve as I throroughly enjoyed the first game, but they definitely succeeded in my opinion. It's very funny and even a little bit scarey at times due to just being alone in this humongous testing facility. Stephen Merchant's character Wheatley is hilarious and it all works really well.

Highly recommended, well done Valve!

Good but to short & easy

| | See all SolarNova's reviews (18)

All in all a good game:

Graphics: Good, smooth, and runs well at 1920x1080 with max settings even on a dated gaming computer. Although... The textures could do with being more complex, most seem very simple, specialy the liquids. However these issues are probably one of the reasons the game runs so smooth.

The game itself:
Like the 1st game the idea is great, however even the 1st portal was to short and easy. This is even shorter and even easyer. granted the end puzzles get more complex towards the end, but they dont take long to figure out and complete.
I found myself just getting to the point where i thought the difficulty should have been at 20% through the game , however it was infact at 90% through the game, a few levels later and the game was over...underwhelming. (completed the game the same day i got it)

However in all honesty i cant mark the game down to harshly becouse of this, as most modern day western games are to easy, so in retrospect Portal 2 holds up rather well.

It makes you laugh and the story gets finished of rather well with a possiblility that another Portal game could be made to continue on.

So yea its a good buy although i wouldn't buy it for its rrp considering how short the game is. So the PC version price currently on Play.com is reasonable.

Single player mode
At a beginning it was impressive and after 10 minutes of game play it started to annoy. Unsatisfied I already started to count things that dislike (example: faulty core's (with blue eye) voice was like real human's - without any distortion, challenges of the levels seamed very easy and the story line the same as in portal part one), but at the other part of a game everything changed - I started to like it more and more and then I finished last stage... ... I am gladly putting this game to other valve masterpieces.

For two players game mode - no complains :)

Amazing computer graphics.
Runs fluently (no crashes experienced).
Storyline and some characters could be a little better.

Verdict - really worth buying and playing.

  Incredible, Funny and Innovative

I loved this game from start to finish. From Stephen Merchant as the supremely funny [unintentionally] Wheatley, to J.K. Simmons as CEO of Aperture Science, Cave Johnson; the game was a blast.

The humor in it is top notch, with GLaDOS being just as callous and spiteful as ever, and the puzzles in it incorporate new features like hover lifts and refraction cubes. I've played single player for 9 hours, which it took me to complete it. I found it thoroughly enjoyable and the new, updated source engine is a marvel to see how everything moves and evolves as you go through the chambers.

I would fully recommend this title to any fans of Portal, and even those who didn't like the first one. The advances in the game over the first one are almost unbelievable in how far they've come. There is a fully emerging storyline [unlike the subtle, down-played storyline driving the first game] and it really draws you in.

Buy it and enjoy it. Valve have created another cultural smash hit.
