They can keep tweaking the series making them more up to date and therefore "better" but in reality if they never made another Civ game after this one it would have been okay. I remember playing this when i was in school, and i probably had more fun and learnt more from this than i did at school anyway. If you love big 3D visuals and mindless killing and shooting (which is also good fun) this isnt the game for you. IF, on the other hand, you like to think strategy and seeing things being created and growing if you like games like sim city, command and conquer....well then you've probably already got this. Perfect.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars So much fun, if you have the time for it.

This is the game that got me interested in war strategy and just like thegame chess teaches you to think ahead and plan according to your enemy.

You can play this game, how ever you would like; follow the military style of your favorite general (or of the leader you ar playing as, you pick from many famous leaders through out history) or play as you would like.

Though there is Civ 4, which has good grahics and a greater choice of military units.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Perhaps The Greatest Stratergy Game of All Time

Though newer versions have come in this great series Civ 2 was a benchmark in the stratergy genere. Painfully addictive and beautifully intricate this game is still happily among my all time favourites. Just as good now as when it came out. A must buy for all stratergy fans!
