The world has been ravaged by a series of climatic disasters and society is on the verge of total breakdown. Now the aliens have returned, with a full invasion force bent on nothing less than the total annihilation of mankind, starting by trying to rip the heart out of Earth's most iconic city.

In New York, terrifying alien invaders stalk the streets and a nightmare plague strikes down the city's myriad inhabitants with brutal epidemic speed. The city's systems are in chaos, its streets and skyline are smashed and in flaming ruin. This is New York City like you've never seen it before.

Neither paramilitary law enforcement nor the might of the US military machine can stand against the invaders, and all who choose not to flee are dead men walking. Just to survive in this maelstrom of death will require technology beyond anything any modern soldier has ever seen.

One man will inherit that means to survive. One supersoldier, wielding the combat enhancement technology of the future with Nanosuit 2, will make the last stand to save humanity from destruction in the urban jungle that is New York City.

  • New York, New York: Crysis set the visual benchmark for PC games that still stands today. Crysis 2 will redefine the benchmark on all platforms, shifting attention to the rich urban jungle of New York City
  • Amazing Aliens & AI: Challenging best-in-class AI with unique group coordination and group behaviour systems give realistic responses to your actions
  • Nanosuit 2: Adapt your combat tactics by customising your Nanosuit and weapons in real time with revised modes, unlocking a variety of supersoldier abilities
  • Multiplayer: World-renowned multi-player shooter studio Crytek UK is going to reinvent multiplayer with the dynamic intensity of Nanosuit 2. By using Nanosuit technology the player has nearly unlimited ways to approach the dynamic combat environment

 Still a cracking series

Let me start by saying - Crysis 2 is not the same as Crysis 1. Simple. Does that make it a bad game? No - it dosent. Infact - Crysis 2 is a damn good game. The thing to remember as other reviewers have said - Crysis 1 was a benchmark in terms of graphics quality and game world design. By those I mean you had to have a powerhouse pc to run Crysis 1 on high quality when it was released years ago. Even now, low and mid range computers will struggle to run Crysis 1 with high settings. The performance hit is also a huge jump between DX9 and DX10. As for the game world - the whole game was set on an island with lots of open landscape like Farcry 1 and 2 by the same developer. This meant the sense of freedom is greater than that of other games - including Crysis 2.

The sequel still retains nice graphics - on high settings Crysis 2 runs smoothly on my mid to high end computer. This is through DX9 and Windows XP. I have not tried DX10 on Vista or Win7. The first thing that struck me when playing Crysis 2 was how the game world feels smaller and more built up. Bear in mind though, this Crysis is set in NYC and not a tropical island - you still have the ability to tackle objectives from various directions and decide if to run in all guns blazing or do it all stealth like.

From other reviews I have read for Crysis 2 it is quite apparent many PC gamers were disappointed with Crysis 2 as it was not like Crysis 1. Crysis 1 was an awesome game - and so was Crysis Warhead. Since the style of Crysis has changed with the sequel - fans of the games were hoping for the same style as Crysis 1 but with even more sequel goodness. A lot seem to feel they have got a console orientated Crysis. This is obviously true since it is a multi platform release. So that means the developer created a game engine to suit more than just the PC and to broaden their target audience to include console owners. Crysis 1 was only on PC. You may notice many reviews of Crysis 2 on the 360 and PS3 are good and this is because it is the series debut on a console, so considering its the same game no matter which platform then the good reviews show this is a quality game.

So far I have really enjoyed playing Crysis 2, its still fun to lay low and scope out an enemy objective before deciding weather to riddle the whole place with bullet holes or sneak in and pick them off one by one. From the minute the game starts I was hooked and the intro is really good but I wont spoil that and let you play it yourself. Definatley a 4 star, the only thing I can think of to mark it down one star was because I was one of those avid Crysis 1 fans and was hoping for more of the same open world playground gameplay in Crysis 2. But - now that I have played the sequel it is still a really good installment to the series and I recommend it to anyone.

 Don't believe the negativity...

Prior to the DX11 patch I was annoyed with Crysis 2 because it was so much of a console port. Running liquid cooled SLI I was unable to play Crysis 2 on both GPU's. Since 1.9 patch & DX11 that has changed. Crysis 2 now runs in SLI with no random blob shadows. The game looks stunning and actually the single player campaign is fun. Those who say it is no longer Crysis... Absolute nonsense. The core Crysis gameplay remains it's just the location that's different. The city is quite stunning to behold especially at night with glowing neon signs and rain socked streets. I have reached the point in the game where the city is transformed into an alien ravaged one. The cut scene leading to this point was stunning. Very cinematic. I've also played some of the multiplayer too, it's fun and that too looks great in DX11 and with nice audio as well. Some have complained that the story is poor. Why? It's not a blockbuster scifi script but it is interesting nevertheless. The character modelling and acting is impressive to behold. The characters are so lifelike and their movements so realistic they are able to convey some degree of emotion. All in all I would say this game is cutting edge on a PC in DX11. No other game looks this good.

EDIT: Some weeks on from purchase and I am still playing the single player campaign. It's massive! The length of the campaign is impressive. I've updated to the latest 1.9 patch and DX11. There is a performance hit but the graphics are very nice. I'm running dual 560Ti liquid cooled SLI. I would say crysis 2 is one of the more interesting games I've played this year.

Best game of 2011-12 by a mile *****

The follow up from some of the most amazing games I've played. Crysis 1, Crysis Warhead & Crysis Wars. Crysis 2 has been ported from console design but regardless why is that a bad thing? Crysis 2 does still set a benchmark for graphics, and runs really well on most systems. Good or bad. I think its an amazing game for the price. If your into high end first person action shooters with a seriously pro sci-fi edge you will not be disappointed. Multiplayer is also fantastic and I play all the new games like bf3 ect and it still looks insanely good. The new DX11 high rez textures looks awesome too.

I hope it being on the consoles will only make the crysis commmunity bigger and better with a bigger following as the community remains fairly small so feel free to buy the crysis maximum edition too for the full set or the older titles and lets help keep this amazing games and its predecessors alive.

 Crysis Multiplayer Review-Amazing experience :)

I got crysis 2 limited edition in a deal. I have only played the multiplayer game so far but what I can say is that the basic multiplayer games available are awesome. I am always lagging in fps multiplayer games, but ive played so much of crysis 2 multiplayer over last four days, that now im starting to get near the top with my scores ! It is greatfun levelling up and gaining new features as yiou level up and the levels themselves are very good indeed. :) One down side is that I bought one of the downloadable map packs but so far ive not played anyone on them . People stick to the main maps for some reason. Anyway dont let that put a downer on the game because the basic multiplayer game is very good. Much better experience than with call of duty black ops. 10/10 for the multiplayer :)

 Get it

Can only give it four stars as i have not played the Multiplayer.
The single player game is worth a tenner on it's own, great graphics, good game play, and runs smooth, the patches seem to have fixed any problems so go get it.
