DEFCON is a stunning online multiplayer simulation of global thermonuclear war. You play the role of a military Commander hidden deep within an Underground bunker. Your mission - to successfully exterminate your enemy's civilian population whilst disabling their ability to attack your own.

Start by launching your battleships, subs and bombers in order to decimate your opponent's defences. Scramble together your alliances but remember only one can stand victorious. Prepare your pre-emptive strike before one of your supposed allies gets the same idea.

Choose the perfect moment for betrayal, obliterating your opponents with an apocalyptic thermonuclear barrage, but get it wrong and their devastating counter attack will bring you to your knees!

Single Player Mode:

  • Vs AI CPU players.
  • Alliance System - allows the formation and termination of teams.
  • Take control of one of 6 superpowers in global thermonuclear war.
  • Office Mode: Permits 8 hours of games, and DEFCON can be minimised to the Windows task bar with double esc button.

    • Strategically position and control offensive and defensive units.
    • Launch attacks from subs, bombers, battleships and missile silos.
    • Scout your opponents territory for tactical advantage.
    • Make and break alliances to achieve victory.
    • Unique graphical style and soundscape.
    • Internet and LAN multiplayer mode up to 6 players.

Bonus: Includes Introversion's 1st game UPLINK.

DEFCON is one of those games that is very easy to learn but hard to master. dont be fooled by the graphics either, this for me is one of the greatest RTS games out there. I often spend 3 to 4 hours playing this every other night, if you want to have a look at what the game looks like just pop over to youtube and have a look. as i said before the controls are easy to pick up but getting a strategy to work takes practice. So get this game as £14.99 is a bargain and the fact that they have thrown in UPLINK aswell is great.

     Shall we play a game?

This game certainly does have a War-games feel about it and that pretty much is the premise for it, fantastically hard to master but ultimately so rewarding when you do, with online multiplayer and such great features as "a work mode" (why don't programmers do that so often any more) I definitely recommend a purchase, it looks beautiful, plays well and at 14.99 and a boss button, take it to work to learn how to nail those pesky Ruskies or Euros or Yanks argh Defcon 1 launch detected!!!

Of note, I don't believe this game will be to everybody's liking, it is rock hard, its not an EA game and might challenge some users gaming expectations, you can download a free demo to experience it first.

I'd buy that for a dollar! (or £14.99)

Download the demo (it's only 60mb, as is the game iself) from Introversion - if you like it, buy it, if not, then don't. Basically if you like Civ or any of the slower RTS games then this is for you. Unless you're a freakin' chimp or something....

The world's first "Genocide 'em up"

A hauntingly entertaining game where no-one wins, but you must try to lose the least while raking up megadeaths as you nuke your enemy into oblivion.
Utulising retro graphics that give it that arcade-y feel and reminiscent of "big boards" from various war rooms give it an air of Cold War nostalgia, it's very beautifully simple and simply beautiful.

     Great game, challenging, but rewarding

I've had Defcon for several years, and even tho I'm not particularly good at it I still really enjoy playing it.
For such a simple premise the game really captures your attention, and the visuals are good. If you've ever watched Wargames you'll feel right at home. The background soundtrack fits the theme perfectly - in that it's very dark and grim, sounds of people suffering from radiation sickness etc.

If you happen to own some Ambx lights then the game can make use of them (yellow warning flashes tied into enemy nuke launches , different colour flashes matched to the defcon status etc,...really adds to the atmosphere).

For the paltry few pounds it's for sale for now it's a no-brainer to grab a copy, even if it's just for the occasional game now and again.
