Company Of Heroes: Opposing Fronts

After being in the beta for opposing fronts for two months now, I thought I'd post up a note for anyone who's interested.

As with any beta there have been many patches to solve the bugs that come up. But even from the first game I managed to join I knew I was gong to enjoy, the weather effects and lighting give the game an excellent atmosphere. The new fire effects look fantastic even on dx9. I've not moved to Vista yet!! The two new armies each have some interesting abilities, some excellent new units and play quite differently from the existing armies. I the first time I played the British I was very confused about how to build anything but after two games I got the hang of them. With two new campaigns and a fantastic multi player this is shaping up to be a must have for any RTS fan.

Ok first off let me start by saying I hate RTS games... well I have done to this point. But when I started playing COH I was addicted. I've been beta testing Opposing Fronts from the beginning and it's a fantastic expansion of the original game. The beauty is that you can carry on playing the old Allies and Axis factions as they were before, with the new maps, new graphics, and against new armies.

It's hard to express how truly dynamic this game is. One mistake doesn't mean you have lost the game. Don't expect to be able to pick up the new armies easily- you won't be great at this game to begin with...it's something that comes with practice. Personally I like to play against the CPU until I know a fair bit about the army I'm commanding and the army I'm up against. If you played the original COH you will find these armies very different indeed. Persevere, and you will find their strengths. And, importantly, the armies are very well balanced. Don't be so quick to blame the game, or one side being "overpowered" - you will find every faction has its strengths and its downfalls.

If it weren't for the problems I have been encountering, this game deserves 5 Stars.

I don't understand why the game insists on uninstalling CoH and reinstalling and then having to login into the online account each time.

The game seems to crash more than CoH, especially the campaign. MP also seems to be hit and miss with freezing, dropping people and lag.

Now this maybe JUST me! but I doubt it.

Ok this is not a reflection of the game itself as I never got to play it.

I play COH 95% of the time over my own LAN and was eagerly awaiting this expansion. However Relic decided to throw in an online verification that does not allow you to even play the game in LAN without x amount of copies.

So so disappointed and my advice to all LAN players is to steer clear until Relic sort this out.

Now I gotta try take my copy back plus reinstall my original game.

...buy this. The finest RTS game available, if you liked CoH you will love this even more. Two new fantastic armies and missions plus loads of new skirmish maps. Even after playing for months you will still be impressed by the detail and movement of the game.
