Plays great on Macbook, ignore what you may have heard...

I have to admit, I bought Sim City for my macbook half expecting that I would be unable to play it. I already own the game on PC but after converting to Mac last Christmas I am slowly converting a few of my fave PC games over also. Got the game in 2 days (another speedy shipment, thanks play.com) and loaded it up on my macbook (for those who may wonder, I have the December 2007 black Macbook which is now Intel based) I waited for the game to load up and would you believe...it worked! In fact I felt a little stupid as the default settings even switched themselves straight on to high, and even on these I had no slow down. Obviously being a Sim City fan I am well aware that once the city grows slow down is somewhat inevitable, so I reduced the settings to medium just in case. Anyway been playing for awhile now and the only slight niggle is echoing the previous review that occasional graphic 'blocking' is apparent, however this is by no means a reason not to buy the game and is something that is quite easily ignored. Sim City 4 is a timeless game with great longevity, and now I can play it on my new shiny Macbook. If you own a relatively new mac, you shouldn't have any problem playing this great game. Enjoy!

       What a pile of junk.

I had played the PC version of Simcity 4 for years. It's an excellent game. This port for the Mac, however, stinks. I have a new 8 core 2.8GHz Mac Pro, two iMacs, and a MacBook Pro and it's slow as molasses on all of them. I tried the Universal Binary patch Aspyr provide and that just results in it crashing all the time. This game is a waste of money. I'd send it back as broken, but don't fancy having to argue the toss when random lucky folks (as in the reviews below) appear to have it working somehow. Google for further reviews of this, and you will see that, generally, it does not work for most people (though you might get lucky).

       Brilliantly Addictive!!!

Once you get going you'll find it extremely addictive and it's very difficult to stop playing!!!
Installation is easy and straightforward and you'll get a well-detailed instruction manual to keep you on the right track. However I would recommend full use of the in game tutorials which are very helpful in teaching you how to maximise the new map set up and familiarise you with the many changes and improvements that have been made.

This game is superb and you'll be amazed at the quality, detail and high level of game play you experience as you go along, indeed, rarely has the word 'deluxe' been so aptly put to a game title.

       Good purchase

I am very pleased with this game! The added expansion pack adds lots of extra transport options to play around with. I run this game on my Macbook and it works well and does not slow down, however, there are times when the graphics go blocky. This surprised me, as I have the game on an old HP Pavilion 700mhz 256RAM, with integrated graphics and I do not get this problem (however it is quite slow on there).

Overall I think this is a fantastic game, which never really gets boring. If it does, just put it away for a few months and then come back to it and it's just as interesting. The new Simcity Societies looks a bit wierd, but Simcity 4 is definately fantastic and if you like Sim games such as Zoo Tycoon, etc, you will probably enjoy this game!
