Like many of the reviewers of this game, I bought this hoping it would be an up to date version of the classic Theme Hospital. Its a poor immitation and I think the creators have really missed out on an opportunity to release something fantastic.
I dont normally write reviews but I feel so ripped off by this I have made the effort this time.
I'm not the best gamer in the world and even I finished it in a day! There's no challenge in the game at all. When I finished the game, I was really surprised it had ended so suddenly and had been so easy that I thought something was wrong with the game!
It could have been so great, so promising, but in the end its a pure disappointment.
Best advice I can give is to save your money and just hope someone one day releases a Theme hospital style game that we've all been waiting for!
I have just got the game and had 30 mins of playing before work, but here is a short review:
Installation: This game is on a DvD disk and it only took 1 to 2 mins to install. I have NEVER seen a game install that fast so it made me a little bit dubious as to what was in it.
Main Menu: Start of by selecting a user name, then it will take you through the main menu. Pretty simple design, however I was disappointed by the options section. All you can change is the sound and the screen res. Not the small detail bits.
I know what you are all asking, is it anything like Theme hospital. well yes and no. It is like a mix of the sims and theme hospital.
Yes you can build rooms and hire staff. The first thing you put in your room from a list of equipment, turn the room into that thing. But it is also like the simes by the way we can move the characters around and make them interact with other characters. Make them kiss, argue, tickle, joke etc etc.
Because I have only played for such a short time, I cant really give much more as this is all I have found out, but at the moment it seems like a very good game, so my standing is:
8.5/10.
Despite what the other reviewees claim, this game is downright awful. It is perhaps unfair to compare it to such a great as 'Theme Hospital', but if it were to be, you would find that this game is extremely dull, easy, and a waste of time.
Firstly, it tries to be a mixture of 'The Sims' and 'Theme Hospital', failing miserably. The levels themselves are short and simply too easy. All you have to do, generally, is build a couple of rooms, and leave the game to run itself. Unlike 'Theme Hospital' the level of interaction is poor, leaving you to basically only build rooms. You can 'customize' objects and such, but this is just a time-wasting feature that adds nothing to the game.
The story itself is pathetic, making me cringe because of the clichéd lines and the horrible writing capabilities. The whole game is short, with a single level in 'Theme Hospital' lasting more than four in this.
Overall, I would discourage anyone from attempting to buy this game, as 'Theme Hospital' would be a better and cheaper purchase.
I bought this game hoping (finaly) for a modern remake that went something along the lines of Theme Hospital, i couldnt have been more dissapointed! The game itself is boring, apart from building rooms theres not much you can do, staff seem to just walk around by themselves and patients seem to be prety rare occurances! The game has bugs in it and the developers offer no support at all, the most i could find was a phone number for accessing cheats (which charged £2!) Personally i think the graphics are also a bit outdated, would have been good 2 years ago but now the chunky block graphics with poorly rendered 2d backgrounds and textures look very ugly. The game seems almost like a beta version which if it had been developed further and properly had potential, but in its current state, isnt worth it. The game is nothing like theme hospital, if you want a good hospital game, buy that, if you already have it (as most people do) just keep hoping for a ds port or the ex bullfrog staff to get back together and make a remake!
Even without comparing it to Theme Hospital, i would have to rate this game as one of the worst purchases i have made in the last 12 months, definatly save your money
1. The game is full of bugs.
2. Only ten deseases max per hospital.
3. Hardly any patients arrive at the hospital - sometimes the hospital is completely empty of patients and there is no way of attracting more!
4. There is no control over doctors or nurses to make them work curing the sick and dying. but they get on with it without any input from the player just fine - the game needs no interaction!
5. MOST IMPORTANTLY - there will never be any support for this game - no patch - just nothing!
I advise anybody thinking of buying this game to visit Codemasters' forum first - and see if somebody has manged to mod it in any way - because that is the only way anybody will get anything resembling gameplay from this sad and rip-off package!
