I've been running the game on a 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo, 4gb RAM with VISTA 64 and a 1GB nVidia GTX280 at max settings 1920 * 1080 with no framerate issues at all.
The game is great fun overall and deserves top marks. Its a bit slow at first, but after you get a few missions into the game and get a few of the upgrades to your running, jumping and gliding you will be zipping about like a true superhero.
The powers are inventive and a lot of fun, once you get them upgraded you will be amazed how sick some of them are. The Whipfist power upgraded to Street Sweeper is amazingly gory!
The controls are pretty easy to get used to, I've not used the keyboard and mouse yet, I've been using an xbox 360 controler instead. The ability to lock onto the most dangerous units on the screen makes running combat possible with ease.
The game starts out easy enough, but it definitely doesnt stay easy. The enemies get tougher as you progress, they send more units after you, which hit harder and have more health, so you will need to make use of all those beefed up powers. Working out which powers suit each situation is important, as the combat is tactical and not just mindless button mashing.
An example is your Whipfist power, which turns your arm into a massive clawed whip. It's great for taking down helicopters and clearing crowds, but you are in serious trouble if you try using it to take down a tank.
Consuming people to gain their memories and powers is also great just to see the 'fatality' animations. The animation varies depending on what power you have selected at the time. Consuming people whilst using muscle mass power makes Alex tear his victim in half, and with the claw power you push the poor persons head down into their chest cavity, or slice them in two like he does in the intro cinematic (which is one of my favourite intro's ever)!
Small touches in the game like the public's reactions to you running about mutated, and the slow-motion that kicks in when you are switching targets and powers are great. Sure, it wont win any graphics awards, but this game is all about the gameplay. The story I've seen so far isn't anything new (no surprise there), but it is relevant to the gameplay.
The challenges are nice and varied too, ranging from practicing your wall jumping skills to all out war whilst allied to the military or the mutants.
This game is a surprise hit, and the best thing I've played in a long time. Definitely worth 5 stars.
