1 Consolised franchise killerAngeret | 25/11/2007 | See all Angeret's reviews (9)What can I say. I've been a player of the Unreal/UT series since day one and I wish I hadn't bought this release.Having read through the official forums I found several problems where people can't play the single player game unless the whole thing is played in one go - or it will trash your progress. The User interface has been become much like a PS3 front end and is awkward to navigate and it appears the game was playtested on joypads, not a mouse/kbd User in sight. There are glitches in the game which cause lockups - you will need to manually edit config files to fix this and other issues. For those that don't like dodging, it's on by default and again, you need to edit a .cfg to change that.Multiplayer also has issues - one is that you'll need an uber PC to get more than jerk-o-vision.Graphics are very nice although much overdone - the game has plenty of bling in that department, also the sound is okay but again, overdone, with multiple music tracks that will kick in & out as the game requires. It may get choppy when music suddenly changes every few seconds depending on the level of action.Bots now have Artificial Stupidity - they've been seen firing into the air, into the ground, at teammates - especially the Player when carrying the flag, thereby making a team-kill - and clustering in areas where there may be a texture bump.Assault and Double Domination have been removed, as has any feeling of gameplay to make room for all the pretty graphics, some of which may be headache inducing - for example, CTF-Coret now looks like a holo-neon shopping mall, not a disused base. Plenty of bling, no soul.I'm sorry to say that UT3 has become a console port which feels more like a driveby shooting than a face to face FPS. Maybe future patches will take care of the issues, maybe this will be UT2k3 again. Nevertheless, I deleted the game and am now looking for a buyer for my Collector's Edition. The game is dead for me, I'm going back to UT'99 where the games are fast & FUN.Bear in mind that this is how I found the game to be, also how others from the Epic forums have described their experiences. Plenty of people have either had no problems or are too much fanboi to admit there are issues. Your mileage may vary. If there's a demo, be advised that you should download and play that first to get an idea of how it will look/perform on your system.
