I am still playing this game. I am still hooked on Skirmish ever since the day it came out more than 2 years ago. What can I say? This is a piece of gem, it is by far the best RTS I have ever played single- and multi-player wise. You must, for almightys' sake, experience the Company of Heroes experience. It is not to be missed. Buy by all means and lose yourself in the world of one of Relics' star titles. Relic has a reputation for making excellent RTS games and this is another example. The skrimish, I find myself still playing, after 2 years, either online or offline, and it is fast paced and insane. Difficulties suits beginner and hardcore gamers. There is a nice tutorial interface that will get you started nicely. Model details is very nice for such a game and graphics, especially on DX10, is really, really nice. Heavily entrenched fortifications? Raze the area with artilley. Tanks? Send AT guns and AT troops. AA guns in base and cannot bomb base? Elimimnate AA crew and get bombing. There is a nice point system that unlocks abilites of the army such as powerful units, weapons of mass destruction, abilities such as get 1000 manpower points for 200 fuel points every recharge. This is checkpoint combat, you capture checkpoints and rake in manpower, munitions or fuel points as long as it is still connected to your base. There is a unit cap that increases the more territory that is in your control. More territory means that you are more likely to win teh battle but if you're good you can turn the odds in your favour. The story is cinematic and the best in game graphics FMV sequences I have ever seen are present here. This pack gives you CoH, and Opposing Fronts meaning you can control Americans or British vs. Wermacht or Panzer Elite. Some awesome units such as the M26 Pershing Heavy Tank, SdKfz 171 Panther, SdKfz181 Tiger and Tiger 2, Panzer 4, M4 Sherman (Calliopes, Firefly and Crocodile are some deriratives), Churchill Mk IV, etc. Awesome! Get it!

When it comes to RTS games it seems that the first player to build up their base so that they can get the biggest and best units & amass a huge army will be the winner. Dawn of War, Relic's other RTS, is certainly guilty of this, though perhaps not as guilty as some.

Company of Heroes drastically breaks this trend. Making almost every unit just as valuable as the rest, with very individual abilities and uses. It's possible to be attacked by the largest possible army, and repel them with a few well placed Anti-Tank guns & Heavy Machine Gunners.

This makes the game far more strategic than most other RTS games. Your units are valuable, and looking after them rather than throwing the recklessly at the enemy will serve you well. The terrain is destructible, walls and buildings can be blown down to create new paths. The cover system provided by the terrain for your units is very deep, so finding the perfect placement for your units is also very important. Not to mention that… more »
