Poor attempt at a PC trillogy

Being a big fan of the previous Soldier of Fortune games i was eager to sample the latest installment which had seemed to of falled out of nowhere.

First impressions were poor when the only graphics setting i was able to change was the screen resolution, the advanced graphics are changed according to the higher resolution, a lot like games from over a decade ago (duke nukem 3D, Quake).

Well i thought to myself graphics arnt everything and just jumped straight into the game, which is an interesting use of words since that is exactly what i did. With little to no story introduction you get thrown into a middle eastern backdrop which seems to be overused in games these days with 3 weapons you have chosen at a previous layout screen.

At this point i thought maybe the game is all about the combat, previous SOF games have made their name by interesting weapons being able to blow people to pieces. This aspect of the game seems to be all that SOF3 has going for it, and even then it doesnt reach the standards of its predisesors.

The graphics are similar to that of Rainbow Six Vegas, but with unimaginative level design, and a lack of advanced graphics acceleration which make most all characters and buildings blend into a collage of motion blur. The gameplay is uneasy and unsatisfyable, the aiming is awkward, the AI seems very scripted and the story is pretty standard.

Thats not to be said that SOF:PB does have potential, when you play it it seems like your playing an early developed BETA demo of the game, so it seems uncomplete.

I wouldnt recommend this unless you just want the whole Soldier of Fortune collection, if you have never played a SOF game however i suggest investing in SOF1 or 2 which you can pick up for pennies these days.

           Worst game ever

This is literally a poor excuse for a game. If you have any sense you'll pick up Call of Duty 4 for practically the same price, they both are practically attempting to do the same thing, but Call of Duty 4 does it better.
Crap online play, a single player campaign that can be completed in 3 hours, a gore system that isn't even better than the legendary Soldier of Fortune 2 system.
This game is an embarrasing addition to the soldier of fortune name, please don't be as stupid as me to buy it.

           Shafted again !!!!

Having played the two original SoF titles, I have been waiting a long time for the promised third episode. Was it worth it ?
How Activision have the cheek to call this Soldier of Fortune is beyond me. Alarm bells started to ring when I looked at the game manual.......eight pages, none of which mentioned anything about the game apart from installation and support. The controls list is relegated to half the back outer page and nowhere is multiplayer mentioned. The game disc itself is plain green with white print, hardly something to get the juices flowing ! And it's a fact the game won't. SoF 2 looks better than this, and how long is it since that was first released ? Gameplay is dated, no lean or prone. Aiming..... well, that is if you can see the enemy for the huge non-transparent aiming reticule.Video options are .......well there are none apart from resolution. Poor, very poor for this day and age. The game wouldn't run until I downloaded a patch. Which was guess work as customer support for this title is non existent. Even EA's half finished games look and play better than this.
When you've installed this , it appears in the start menu under "Activision Value", well I have to say truthfully, even at £17.99 there is no value in this game and I have been robbed.

           Horrible

oh dear, sof is dead. graphics very poor, mouse movement is horrible, needs a high end pc to run and still looks crap. avoid

           pathetic

Where to start? ill start on a good point. The weapons in this game are actually pretty cool, this was the first thing i thought. eg. reloading the grenade launcher looks awsome! unfortunatley, the sound effects dont match which lets it down from the start. also, you have to choose from a menu what weapons and what add on's you want. this spoils the fun of choosing your weapons - they shouldve learned from rainbow six and crysis that coolness comes from letting us twist the silencer on the gun barrel whilst in cover during a fire fight!

secondly. like someone else said, you get thrown in the middle east, with little info on why your there. so youve no real insentive to even care or bother for the reason your shooting people.

thirdly. the special effects are quite simply appauling! Pathetic to be honest. Cant believe they paid someone to actually programme it. The explosions are cheap, and dont even react with the environment, most are scripted events. The gore is laughable, and it doesnt make sense. You can shoot someone in the chest twice and theyll live, shoot them in the arm with a pistol and it flys off and they die. wow, logical eh? The A.I believe me is non existant. Eneimies blindly run past you, and to add insult to injury, run too far ahead in the game and youll find spawn points where you can cheaply pop em off one by one. so so old skol.

fourthly. game play. this game is practically impossible to enjoy, on any level. try getting past the first level without either laughing or swearing at the screen. Die, and you have to wait for the game to reload, which is long concidering the differences between other next-gen games available. the levels themselves look cheap, poor texture details and pop up graphics. Absolutley no insentive to even bother wondering around. (i.e no collectables, hidden objectives - basically anything fun.) Enemies are hard to spot, and due to what appears to be an extensive number of "spawn points" - they turn up out of nowhere which gets incrediably frustrating.

Fifth. (yes it goes on) the story and acting is unbearable. imagine a cheapo old skol 70's/80's A-Team style, and you get the idea.

On a final note, id like to say, i hardly ever write a review on a game, this game however was so bad, i felt compelled to write this to stop other people buying it, let alone even renting it. If i was the guy in charge for making this game, id sack myself.

To sum this game up - basically imagine this. the design and production team in a meeting room are thinking how to produce SOF3. they think for a while, and eventually decide "COD4 sold loads - lets just rip loads of ideas from them and afew other games, throw in some extensive gore as a sell point, and jobs a good un"

          wrong. oh boy...so so wrong.
